the exhaust on mine makes it sound like a big v8 with the 4 barrel on top , i havent been under the car to see what type of exhaust it is yet. the sound is beautiful cruising down the highway the only downside is you can hear me from half a block away . ive got big dual resonators sticking out the back (its a shame the previous owner had to cut up the back bumper to fit them in, but sometimes it looks kinda nice) ill post pictures later when i have time to take some.

the sound reminded me of a 50's vintage Aston Martin or Jag (also six-cylinder twin cams), set up for the track; not bad company.

The '92's have only 2 O2 sensors. They are in front of the cats. Removing the cats does not effect their readings. I think later models have O2 sensors both before and aft of the cats, and the ECU monitors both. Removing the cats may not work on later models.

BTW- this car is a dedicated racer. It is not street driven. Even so, we will not be running it with no muffler. We're just freeing things up a bit.

I love the sound of the H-6, even the purr it gives me with stock exhaust.

By the way, what do you think the horsepower gain would be usinf straight pipes over the stock exhaust?

ok, thanks for the info, mine is also a 92, and there is a rattle coming from one of the cats, not sure which one, so I think i am just going to gut them all........ , then remove the resonator and put a Flowmaster muffler on it.......i'm looking forward to it.....

I have no idea. There probably is a point of diminisioning returns when the motor lacks sufficient back pressure. You'd need to talk to some of the HP gurus.

I would have to assume Frank Aragona Jr's SVX powered dragsters would have to sound very similar to this.

I think this thread deserves a bump. I love the way this car sounds. I plan on doing something similar to my SVX, but will hopefully keep the noise down a little. Thinking about modding the muffler a little and removing the cats and keeping the resonator. Gotta love the way that the SVX motor gallops right after start up in the second sound file.

Having actually driven my SVX about one mile to the exhaust shop with just the stock exhaust manifolds on, I can personally attest to the "wicked" sound
The only problem I came across - granted I never got over 40 mph - was that the whole car went into resonance at around 2000-2500 rpms. Guess I could have just cranked up the stereo
-Bill
p.s. SVXHunter is definitely right about reaching a point of diminishing returns regarding lack of backpressure vs Hp
