Glass question.
Yesterday afternoon I was at a tee-intersection waiting to make a left. A dodge pickup truck pulls up along side to make his right turn. When he decided to go he gave me a parting gift...he peeled-out in the gravel and sprayed and I mean totally peppered the passenger side of my SVX with dirt and gravel. I was sitting there thinking "no...no...No....NOOOO!" then I hear CRUNCH-CRUNCH as both sections of the window shattered.
I had a few moments to think while traffic passed by and then something popped into my mind...(cue Hamish from Braveheart) "Well, looks like you din't go out and buy a sports car fer nothin'!" Gas down...wheel right. He was five cars ahead, but there was no escaping...I saw him turn and followed him to a residence in a tiny neighborhood. Me: "Excuse me...we need to have a talk" Him: "Huh?" Me: "That little stunt you pulled back there at Camino Seco and Wrightstown...destroyed my window." Him: "Oh sh...." Me: "I think we need to exchange insurance information." Him: "OK." I have his information in hand, but he wants to avoid a claim. Window is taped so it won't fall out. P.S. I didn't break any laws (that I know of) following him.

I like the part where you catch him.
I am not sure how to replace that fixed glass. It is glued in place and the rubber molding is bonded to it. It doesn't look easy. You may want replace the entire door.

Inexcusable. At the least, I hope the jackass stops doing that sort of thing in the future.
I couldn't tell you what to expect for repair costs. I recommend you find the most reputable shop in town to have the work done, though. Some place that does quality work.

The upper and lower glass are both replaceable. Replacing the entire door is not necessary.

Hope you saved the answering machine message. If I had to guess I'd say $1800 just for the glass. If I remember right someone had the stationary glass replaced for just over $900, and I imagine the moving glass is about the same.

yeah the fixed glass is going to be the worst. subaru patened the process of vacum forming the glass into the door so it's not exactly glued in. the moveable glass should be easy.
id say around 2500 - 3000 for the lot depending whare you go. and you , my friend, are a better man than i. i would have gotten really big and green on his @ss. |

You guys are way off! According to Subaruparts.com. the upper fixed glass and the lower side glass go for $152.00 each (with a list price of $200 each)
62201PA000 Glass Door Right Upper Rh 62200PA001 Glass Door Right Lower Rh Check here for the diagram: http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=601-1 A competent glass shop should be able to replace both of these pieces for you. My belief is that the total of parts and labor is less than $1000. Paint refinishing is another matter...

I've replaced that fixed glass on the drivers door on the 94 I used to have...it was a pain....but no worse than the windshield.
Best I remember the glass was in the neighborhood of $150, I didn't need the moveable door window, just the fixed one. If you find a good door, it might be cheaper to replace the door, but you'd just have to see what you could find a door for (I have a good one, but shipping would be high). My guess is around $1200-$1500 by good shop, or $500-$750 by a cheaper shop (I could probably get my body guy to fix it for $400)

Update
I have been in contact with the driver and he has turned out to be a really cool dude and is willing to work with me on this. That makes me feel alot better, as yesterday I was mad enough to spit nails.
Still need to find some glass though.
