Question 92 LS TEAL 84k- thinking of buying

hey guys

i found this sweet 92 LS in my town
i am seriously considering purchasing this car due to is condition, but i am curious what you guys think about it.

the good:
84K miles
Teal wingless LS AWD
pseudo suede seats PRISTINE
carpets brand spankin new looking
clean clean clean garage kept 2nd owner
every service record ever, dealer serviced forever
tranny cooler
clear headlights (stock, just in good shape)
glossy paint
new tires
undercarriage spotless
all original docs, window sticker, and the CAR and Driver special thing, all mint

the bad:
original trans.
one spot with minor dings on the rear driver fender
dash lights out- its a blown fuse (keeps blowing, must be a short)
brakes are due for new rotors... they shudder when stopping

this is probably the cleanest original SVX i have seen, however, this guy wants way too much.
he WAS asking 6800,
i have since talked him down to 5000,
the KBB is 4700.
the more i think about it, the more i realize that 5K is too much
esp. with the electrical bs and the dings....

tell me what you guys think!
Thanks a bunch.

BTW the pics are kinda dark, i had to get out there after school to test drive it.
Thanks again!!

Looks good to me. There's a local 92' with 130,000 miles and he wants 4k for it, original tranny and all. So I don't think that's that high for that mileage and it looks clean.

I think it's a good deal... I LOVE those seats That alone would make me want to buy it!!! The tranny will last a long time as long as you constantly change the tranny fluid!! Don't worry about the tranny...Overall though, I'd say that it looks like a good buy... Even for $6,000 it looks like a good buy... since you talked him down to $5,000 then I would say GET IT!!!... Those other things are just little things... They can be fixed easily

If I had the spare change, and you backed out, I would give him 5k for that car...... Assuming no other problems. A 92 with only 84k dealer serviced miles??

Get It!!

Jump on it! If the miles are correct it's a good deal, a tight low mileage chassis goes a long way. Everything else is a fairly easy fix. Plus if you get it you'll make it to San Luis Obispo in May.

ONce again, we sold our 1 ladt Dr owner 92 LSL w 91k, new sube trans, all records, in better shape for 4750. last May. Did ours go up in value? We should have gotten 6000-7000 if this one's worth 5k.

Offer 4100. in C notes-bring the cash and pull it out of your pocket when your're ready to buy it while you say "I'm willing to go$XXXX. for it." Hard to say no thanks to the green.

I would agree that it is worth $5000. If everything is correct, it is a good buy. The other stuff can be fixed easily.

Original trans means nothing especially since there was a tranny cooler in that car. It means the previous owner took good care of it and you should be ok for a while.

Jeff,
Its easy for everyone to say its worth $5,000. Its only worth what someone will pay for it. The problem with selling on this forum is that most of the people here already have a SVX. People on here are cheap. The SVX has the worst resale value known to man.

I'll be willing to bet that if this car was posted on our "For Sale" page.....the owner will still have the car in a month, two months. I mean it needs $350+ in front brakes, the electrical short is likely the sunvisor, original wheel bearings and transmission. The sunvisor is hanging down. P/S system, engine seals, 60K service, etc....???

As far as the transmission. I've known people who have had transmission coolers on theirs and the transmission still went (101K). Its almost as hit and miss as Ebay. The transmission could just up and die like most do....or it could reach 166,000 + like my '94 LSi did.
Dustin

P.S. Plus this car is the LS model. No sunroof, leather, cd, power seat, mirror defrosters, etc...

Thanks for the input.
I'm pretty much sure im going to get this bad boy. it is too nice to pass up!

these are all good points.
i forgot to mention that the 60K service was done by the subaru dealer.
It does have the factory cd player, too, btw.

you were saying, the electrical short could be caused by the sunvisor?
the current owner says that he will handle the short for me (at the dealer), since i will not be able to actually buy it for another week. im goiong down to his house today to give him a deposit of 10% and have him sign this little mini contract so he doesnt try to shaft me. i dont think this is the case, since he said he turned down a higher offer from some shmuck because he liked that i was such an enthusiast (he coulda been bsing tho )

this guy admitted to some spirited driving, but he definitely babied it. worst case, i figure i will need to put a new tranny in anyway eventually, so then i could just get a 6spd .

also, since it is so much cheaper than any other car that even comes close to the power, speed, features, looks, and comfort of the SVX, not to mention how nice this one is, i think it is perfect for me.

Thanks again for all your input guys, i greatly appreciate. once i actually take'er home i'll post some more pics!

Hey Jeff....
Just had to drop a new tranny into her, topping off about $6000 worth of work I've had done since I got it (Bearings, Rear defrost, Seals, all that good stuff)

Not complaining, mind you, because I love the car, and $10,000 I've spent so far wouldn't be a dnet in the price of the rx8 i was going to buy!!!

btw did I leave the remote start with you?

Back in the US today and yes, found the remote on the chair you were sitting in in the living room. Call and swing by whenever you want or I can mail it out.

Still flabbergasted at the work you had done but even our new 97 with 40k has it's share of issues.
