OK so seems like the team has started move forward with the project, I assume the deadline is not far from now. If you still haven't submited cool pix of your SVX, pls post them up here or you can directly email me to superblitzen@hotmail.co.jp

I remember exactly when and where I fell in love with. That was that tri-tone at this intersection.... I was still a kid riding bicycle... And story goes on and on...

OK seriously folks, I've read through this thread and other 20th anniversary svx meet threads and am still lost...what is the status of this meet? Have we decided on activities and festivities?

There is a lot of discontent amongst members and all I see in the threads are a few people signing up for a hotel in or near Reading, PA.

Are we dead set on Reading, PA...if so what have we planned? If not, what do you all think of Cherry Hill, NJ (the entry point from which all svx's from Japan were delivered). I've done some very basic research on the area and there appears to be a good number of scenic trails and photo-ops.

We really do owe it to the svx and this community to make the 20th anniversary the best yet. I would love to help in whatever way I can.

Basically, no one planned anything, so the 20th anniversary got combined with the annual Reading meet.

Chris-

John Hoffman has already signed a contract with the hotel for the event. This is set in stone. I'm sure he and the other involved with planning would not appreciate a change at this point.

The hotel contract is no big deal. All it does is guarantee us a block of rooms at a particular price for these dates.

Anyone already registered can cancel their reservation at any time without penalty. Any rooms left in the block at reservation cutoff go back into general inventory.

So we have two choices:

Cancel the contract with the hotel and start from scratch completely and take your chances somewhere else. Reading is officially dead.

Do nothing. Just cancel the 20th Anniversary plans, and the pressures associated with it, and leave Reading as it has always been.

After seeing what went on in Japan for the 15th, and more recently the 20th celebration, I feel embarrassed with our lack of passion and commitment so far. We could never hope to match that enthusiasm.

With what I have seen so far with signups, room registration, etc. There is not much to change at this point. This milestone is going nowhere.

I haven't really lost hope, over the years just lowered my expectations a bit.

The older our cars get, the less likely many members are willing to drive any great distances to get to a meet. Things were different back in 2002, when the oldest car was just 10 years old and most of the odometers had less than 150,000 miles.

There are members living in PA which have never attended a Reading meet and there are members who drive from Winnipeg, Manitoba for that very reason. I would venture to say that all the cars at the 20th Anniversary Meet in Japan came less than 500 miles to attend the event.

No matter how many show up, what activities (or lack of) are available, or what the weather is, those who come are always glad they did.

Ok, that's it, I'm inspired now.

Let's see. Googel maps says...Tampa to Reading is... 1050 miles

Think I'd make it there? 75 mph is like 3500 RPMS for the 6-speed. Wonder if she'd hold up. The '97 I'd definitely trust to make it. Wonder if I could convince a buddy to go with me, or my wife.
