which is the best SVX?
Because yeaI've been told that some SVX'S are prone (made to) to fail. Which year and version aka model ect is the best of the best? Is there a comparison chart around here that can give me all the details? thanks.

Simply?
All of them, if not properly taken care of. Technically? Supposedly the post 93 cars have extra protection for the tranny, but then again, see above... under 'Simply?'.

A 1992 Austrian SVX LSL would, in my opinion, be the best. This is because they are LHD just like ours, but have VTD like the Japanese cars do and may even include the Active Electronic 4WS implemented in the Japanese SVX at the time as well. And I forget, did Austria have the same "glass headlight" law in 1992 as Germany?
That aside, the Japanese S4 edition from 1996 would also be amazing (once the speed limiter is removed). It came with BBS wheels (veeery pretty) and all the bells and whistles of the Japanese SVX. It's so depressing that they're only LHD! |

I think best is a relative definition. I could say that one swapped with a STI 6MT is best. But someone else could say that one bone stock is best. Best is merely in the eyes of the beholder.

I think by best he means less likely for the tranny to explode.
you could get a fwd one....but why? If you're looking for a car thats cheap to maintain, get a corolla. the svx didnt have many changes throught it's production period. Some of the tranny issues were....fixedish...after 1994, but still, the front diffs fail when abused The best svx, as far as reliability, is one with some service records, or a mechanicly inclined owner. As for options, trim levels, ect. Theres a spiffy little chart somewhere...I think it was either in the how-to's or on a diffrent site

I don't think it really matters. 92s had the highest failure rate, but I doubt ANY 92 svx that's still on the road has it's original transmission. So, they probably got updated transmissions. Also, the radiator matters most, with the little screen filter tranmission cooler thingie.

The best one is the flashamatic, that is the one with all the bells and whistles. The Automatic which has updated to the 5 speed. fixamatic where it cost you a arm and leg to repair it, It makes no difference in which one you have.then you have that dreadful crashamatic where that tree jumps out in front of you, so there is not a best it how you treat one or it has been treated they all last a long time if it has the right people to keep the maintenance up on it..FWD ,AWD all will deliver the same if you take care of it. preference is all that matters.

If my trans was replaced/rebuilt in 2003, its safe to say its an improvement over the original 92 tranny as far as cooling and filtering, correct?
