The air ride set ups on earlier subarus was pretty prone to failure. (See refrence...Any Lincoln)
Ford..my friend had the best one.. f'in Old Redneck Dude Best part..5 mins after she came up with it, we heard a crash, and ran to see an older flannel-clad man had plowed his 80 sometin ranger into a pole full speed.

Not sure if you guys are unlucky enough to have many Citroen's over there?
They have a really nasty hydraulic suspension system you can raise and lower around 2" up or down. The ride is like being on a boat! they should give a liftime supply of travel sickness tablets with them! After over 30 years of using the idea you would think they would have got it half right by now, but then they are French! Even the Range Rover with its air suspension I feel is not as nice to drive or be a passenger in as the models with good old springs and shocks. Why fix something that aint broke?, the svx is fine with shocks & springs, why would you need to raise a sports car 8" anyway? buy an SUV! |

Didn't the SVX concept car have air suspension?
And also voice-activated something or other? I'm glad that one didn't make it to the production cars, I can't speak Japanese!

Citroen has had air suspension components for many years and in earlier year models you could actually raise a wheel independently of the others in case you needed to change a tire. Mercedes-Benz used air suspension on it high end models for a while, including the 600 sedans, beauty of a car. You could always tell an "air spring" model because after sitting for a long time it would sink down on its suspension, almost scraping the road until the engine was started and the system pressurized. GM made a motor-home several years ago that used an Oldsmobile drive-train, and I seem to remember it having an air-oil-suspension system. Anyone with a better memory than mine care to chime in on that one?

If we're just naming off vehicles with pneumatic struts now our People Mover buses have them on the front.
They go up and down 4 or 6 inches for easy access.
