What was done this passed weekend

Another productive 24 hours.

- installed my (group buy) polyurethane swaybar bushings
- rebuilt the brake master cylinder
- rebuilt the power steering booster
- installed stainless brake lines
- flushed brake fluid with Valvoline Synthetic DOT4 (best I could find locally)
- resprayed wiper arms
- cleaned the throttle body

I still have an issue where I have to exert more brake force than I should have to to stop the car. I have plain rotors, oem rear pads and KVR front pads. My guess is it's getting close to time to rebuild the calipers. Anyone agree?

It could be time but are you sure you got all the air out of the lines?
Just a thought.

Nice bit of work you did. I am so jelous. I have to save money to upgrade my hard drives. They are getting a little full. I am trying to score some 73gb scsi's.

We bled the entire system as per the service manual...then bled the entire system again just to be sure

The brake pedal is firm and will stop the car quick but just requires more brake force than necessary.

That may not be such a crazy statement. Maybe some impreza boosters are different and don't apply the same pressure to the master??? Mine was from an STI and is nearly identical to the SVX. (cept for the push rod and vacuum of course) Was there a huge diffrence in weight between STI and base impreza? I don't know much about what the boosters are capable of, but just thinking maybe the pressure may be different for different weights. What do you think?

Calipers would be an easier place to start though I guess. Since the booster is such a royal pain to get out with the trans in.

I installed a WRX booster in Shotgunslade's car. The car stopped on a dime but his brakes were awsome before hand and I do not believe he commented on them being any better than before

There goes that. Guess it is calipers.

Did earthworn use a bender on his lines for the clutch clearance?

I'm still using the stock SVX brake booster. I should borrow the one off my dad's to test.

Opps, I thought you said you installed an Impreza or WRX booster for swap.

I asked about the line because I'm thinking a pinch could alter the pressure too.

It very well could be just the calipers, I'm just throwing out other ideas though. Good luck, hope you figure it out.
