I see. Not central to this thread, but JDM 5th and 6th can be swapped out for USDM 5th and 6th gear. And there's an even better solution: JDM Forester STi 6MT which has a 0.69 6th gear. :-)

Yep. Also, rather than installing a Forester STi 6MT, the Forester STi gears can be dropped into any Subaru 6MT. The parts are readily available. I did a price quote for Nemesis Destiny a few months ago.

I thought you said that the 6th gear was .707 when you quoted me on those gears?

Yes, and I'll still want to take you up on that as soon as I get the rest of my parts on order

The rest of the Forester STi gears are all taller than the other STi boxes, though 1st is unchanged at 3.636. I guess that was designed to get the turbo spooled quickly...

Here they are, to the best of my knowledge:
1st: 3.636
2nd: 2.235
3rd: 1.521
4th: 1.137
5th: 0.891
6th: 0.707 (or is it 0.69?)

So far this gearset would bring the cruising RPMs the closest to stock. Earthworm had it figured out that in order to match stock cruise with a 3.90 final drive, top gear would have to be about 0.63 or so. But even with 0.707, RPMs at 70mph (113km/h) would be about 2700 with stock diameter tires. Not too bad.

Ideally, I'd like a top gear of about 0.545 or so; according to my calculations, that would bring 70MPH cruise RPM down to about 2000 or so (assuming that a stock engine could keep that speed at that RPM).

Yeah, I had a ride with him when it was just done. At about 6500rpm, the boost was about 8psi. Sounded good, felt strong. It seemed it has more pullll than TR ... my butt may be biased on the SVX

I would bet my last dollar his engine is making more power than my stock WRX TR. Bigger motor with boost. That's always a winning combination!

Hopefully svxfiles will be able to take his car to the track soon.
