close call for greenie

last night on the way home from dinner, i had a close call in the polo green. i live about 7 miles outside of town and from our beltway, it's a 4.5 mile drive down a 4-lane divided highway. the road is not lit nor well-traveled apart from morning and evening commuting times. i noticed two cars about a half mile in front of me that were either stopped or moving very slowly. i could tell something was going on so i slowed down from my usual speed of about 80 mph.

the cars had moved on, but when i got close to where they were braking, i saw an elk someone had hit in the center of the two southbound lanes. while i slowed down even more, another large buck crossed in front of me and i missed it by inches. this was my first emergency braking situation in greenie.

i'd be pretty devastated if anything happened to it, so i've decided not to drive it at night anymore.


ps - i didn't think we had any elk down at 6000 ft.

BTW, how often do you update the mileage in your signature?

i would say well for an old, heavy car. noticeably better than the claret, but i don't think as well as i imagine the legacy would brake.

LOL! i'm surprised you're the first person to ask. i update greenie's mileage every time i drive it. i update the others every hundred miles. in the claret, that's almost every day. as for the jeep i usually don't know until hubby brings in his gas receipt to update teh mileage spreadsheet so it goes up in two or three hundred mileage increments.
