Considering purchase
Hi. Today I was traveling along in my '92 Subaru Loyale, and I hit a slick spot (I'm in Oklahoma). The car hydroplaned, and hit a curb. The problem is, the entire front right wheel is gone. The tire, the half-axel, the lower control arm, all of it. Estimated 600-800 dollars to fix. So I have had my eyes on an SVX for quite some time, and I was wondering what to expect in price.
I found one for 1,000 something in PA, and that is at a dealer. there is one locally for 5500, or best offer... I don't know about that... I would like to spend 2 or under, if at all possible. Please tell me some really good things about this car, and how often you have to replace the rotors, etc. I don't have the time to keep on fixing it and fixing it... or the money for that matter, but I want to have one anyway..... Thanks, Jonathan |

There are alot of owners in PA. I am but a novice at checking the SVX for problems. If you ask nicely I'm sure someone near the area wouldn't mind looking at it for you.

Please let me know where the car is located. If it's anywhere near me I'd be happy to have a look for you.
A side note, buying a $2000 svx doesnt mean it's a $2000 svx. Be prepared to sink as much as $2-3000 additional into the car to get it up to spec. An svx for that price obviously hasnt been maintained to the service schedlue, and is probably not in the nicest of shape. Mike |

Couldn't put it any better than that. Not all SVX's have been given the care they deserve by their former owners.
Good luck in your search for one! -Chike Quote:

I'm going to echo the above converns. If you buy an SVX for cheap, it's likely goingto reward you with thousands in repairs. Also, they're not the most reliable of daily drivers. I've had fantastic luck with mine, but they are no doubt more complicated and more needy than your Loyale.
Me, I'd fix the Loyale or pick up an old Legacy.

It's a 95.
Here's some pics of it. Doesn't say the exact location.

ONLY 108K ON THIS SUCKER! WOW!!!!!!! MY LOYALE HAD WELL OVER 165K! The alternator looks a bit used, but that shouldn't be a problem. If I spend under 500 fixing anything ajar with it, it will have been worth it for the most part. They also say it drives great, and has no problems. A warranty is even available. Has the Dealer mats and everything. It looks like someone took care of it. My brother would be the one going to get it because I work, so he said he will look at it. If I can find out exactly where it is, I also might have you take a look, Green. I need this car..man..that's just too good to pass up.. You all know that once you saw your SVX, you couldn't stay back from it. I thought about a Legacy, but then I wanted performance, and something really worth it the second time around. |

Continued....
I do have Thursdays and Fridays off.... I could work on it on those days... I was spending 2-3 and a half hours detailing my loyale (by choice). I'm pretty sure I could handle detailing the SVX, as well as some of the mechanical work. Plus, I've got my resident mechanic (who drives a great 240 Z, and is a die-hard Nissan driver).
Please post!!! AAAUGH! -Jonathan |

Re: Am I stupid?
Striker,
I don't think anyone is intentionally trying to put down your intelligence. In your initial post, you mentioned that you wanted to spend about 2K max and didn't have the extra money to keep fixing a car...we are just trying to caution you about purchasing an SVX as they tend to be expensive cars to upkeep. I just bought a '96 SVX L yesterday, and in the next 2 weeks I plan on having the car completely serviced and changing the transmission fluid to synthetic. This may run me a few hundred bucks, but it's insurance against a broken tranny or other problems down the road. You just have to be wary with these cars, and be ready to pay a repair bill of over $1,000 at the drop of a hat! This is what you're walking into... -Chike Quote:
