No, it really isnt. Hacker might probe a system to see if it has any unlocked doors or gaping security flaws, but then they'll inform the IT guys about it. I'm not kidding. This happens all the time. Hackers only deal partially with computers, being a hacker is about being curious as to how things work, wanting to learn new things, and even modding things. Everyone with a modded SVX here has hacker DNA in them. Everyone who has taken apart something to see how it works has it also. I suggest you start listening to Off The Hook.... right now the only place you hear 'hacker' is from the media, and we all know how they use it. Go ahead. Try listening to some of their shows. You might learn a thing or two.

Yes. It REALLY is. If you get curious about my home, and you go checking for unlocked doors and gaping security flaws and happen to find one and enter my home, I have the right, by law, to shoot you. I'm not kidding. Ever hear "curiosity killed the cat?"

I would think it'd be more fun to issue a challenge to the IT folks, saying that you CAN get in and let them watch you do it, then have you report back to them what you've found. Maybe even make a business of it -- folks actually pay good money to people for trying to break into their systems. If you're really good at it, you could make some big bucks.

If you refer to your earlier posts, he enters people's computers unannounced (therefore uncontracted and unpaid) and rumbles around just to "tell the IT Guys" he's been there. Good thing they meet such understanding IT guys who don't prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. DUHHHHHH!

Randy, I still can't figure out their train of thought. I've worked with security companies and they always ask for consent in writing before trying to hack a system. Along with that letter that gives them permission, we also get a nice bill for their attempt and a list of security flaws.

We both aren't speaking about intent of the hack, but that uncontracted and unannounced hacking is illegal right?

I was responding to rob's:

which was his reply when I suggested he get a "JOB" as a "legitimate" hacker instead of just "wondering around" in people computers THEN telling them they had holes.

My point exactly.

Without a doubt.
