The legend of the purple car...finally met its end

Well the legend lived on for many years but finally it has hit it's end.

Many of the oldtimers on the site might remember my crazy stories of the purple car (ok burgundy for all of you that are cringing right now).

From the $800 price tag that only turned out to be a bad waterpump. To the death of a tranny less than 2 months later. To the terrible demise of multiple pulleys, one leaving me stranded 500 miles from home in a backwater Wyoming town..... The purple car lived on!

Well no longer....

My step father has been driving it as it's pretty much been parked for 6 months (after buying my new car). Yesterday he pulls over, the engine bay is spewwing smoke. Upon investigation, the entire engine bay is full of ATF and the tranny dip stick is reading completely empty. Off for yet another tow into the local Suby dealer. Find out today that some major seal of some sort between the front differential and the transmission exploded. In doing so, the differential fluid blew itself into the tranny itself. For some reason this is unrepairable without replacing the tranny.......again.

So anyhow, I've decided the car is definately not worth 2 transmissions. It was hard enough justifying the $3000 to myself back then.

The suby dealer has offerered me $500 for the car, so they can part it out. I'm going to complain to them a bit about the tranny, as it's warranty on the reman just ran out about 5 months ago. Maybe they will do something. Otherwise the car is theirs and the legend comes to an end!

Ryan-

You should complain about the transmission doing that. I know at the dealer where I work, we would still likely good-will the warranty if you ***** enough.

Well *****ing and complaining enough paid off. Suby covered 70% of the tranny, and all labor. Total cost to me was $1000 + tax, but the car is back on the road.
