Very O/t need some help/advice

Ok so i sold a car on ebay to a guy in puerto rico. And he has asked me to figure out everything as far as shipping to dock and all other costs to getting it over to puerto rico. I have never done anything like this. I don't know who to contact or or anything. Anyone have an experience or advice on this subject. Any would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
chris

He's paying for the shipping costs, right?

I recommend doing only minimal leg work, finding a few different phone numbers for him to call, and leaving it at that. Give him a few options, but let the guy make the arrangements and pay for it himself. If you arrange shipping, and have him reimburse you for it, you're only asking for trouble.

Be careful

The guy is probably OK, but quite a few Nigerian scams start out this way.

Do not part with your car before you have real live cash in your hand/bank account.

Follow Nick's advice also, do minimal work unless you get money up front.

I shipped my car from Japan to Ireland at reasonable cost [c. $500 at the time] The shipping company were called Yuwa shipping, they may, probably do operate out of the States.

Look up shipping companies in the Yellow Pages. 2,3 phone calls should have you with a company/agency that will work from your nearest port. It will also be best to operate through an agency, they specialise in all the lading and customs documents. I paid them a flat fee of about $100 for my shipment, they take a load of paperwork off your plate, plus they know what they are doing. Again the yellow pages, but if you went down the docks, you would easily get the names of a few of them.

Joe

Remember, get the money first, and do not give bank details to get a transfer organised. This is how the scams operate, they take your money while you are waiting on theirs to arrive.

Thank you so much everyone for all your suggestions, help, and advice. Well it turns out this guy was blown away by the cost. (Did this guy honestlyi think it would be cheap, haha crazy). Anyway, the cars needs a transmission, and according to all the agencies dealing with transporting the car needs to be in running, fully operating condition. So that means he would have to pay me to have the car fixed here.
So right now iam waiting for his phone call. Most likely what will happen, is i'll just tell him to reimburse me all the costs i've incurred calling, and running around like an idiot for him. And from there we'll call it even.
Iam definately never ever doing this sort of thing again, haha this whole thing certainly has proven to be an experience.
Once again everyone, thanks and i'll keep ya posted with what happens next.
Chris
