Re: Strong Vibration
The other day I was driving in a freeway, going on a constant speed of 120 mph. A BMW past me faster I decided to catch him and when I pusshed the power the strong vibration started.
Welcome to the Network, Bruno. Your speed gives new meaning to the word "Freeway".:0. Is that MPH or KPH? If it's really MPH, in my case the vibration would be coming my knees shaking upon a glance at the speedometer. Nonetheless, please get the situation corrected. SVXes brake poorly, especially after the front wheels have fallen off. Best wishes - Ron.

I'm pickin' up bad vibrations.....
Hi Bruno,
Slow down in case a part falls off!! Just to be precise, I was talking about the transmission mounting rubber. [There's a thought!] There is a rear transmission frame support with a rubber cusion on it. Check that. Also a couple of others mention the CV joints, check them for breakage/too much free play also. Joe

Have not seen you posting before, welcome. Quite right. I bought my car sight unseen [not recommended] and it had more problems than I bargained for. Got lots of good solid advice from the guys on here, and a few knowledgeable chaps in England. Everything I tackle or fix, I get info here first. This is certainly the web working at it's best. To top all that, I have made firm friends all over the world with people I have never met face to face! I think this Forum is one of the better ones, but I would say that, I have been a contributor and a recipient for a long time. Bruno, in case you are checking in, I was joking about the part falling off. However, don't do too much 100+ driving till you know more about the cause. It's probably safe enough, but if a CV broke at high speed, say the rear drive shaft, could create some mayhem and damage. Maybe even damage you Check it out before high speed shenanigans is all I'm saying. Joe

Re: I'm pickin' up bad vibrations.....
Hi Joe,
Thank you again for your time and attention. As I´ve said, on Monday I´ve stopped the "Beauty" by the mechanic shop and started some experiences. In my introducting letter I´ve told how expensive and difficult are the Subaru´s dealers and parts over here, so I have first to improvise some adaptations to the parts before exchanging into a new one. ( I feel my English terible today ) My first try was the Cushion rubber rear. In my feelings I imagined the rubber was old and tired and when accelerating the car the movement of the gear box could cause the vibration. To improvise a new symptom I put some wood sticks inside the Cushion rubber and tested the car. The symptoms didn´t change. The next possibility in my mind was the center brg assembly, the one between the the propeller shaft. Well I think I´ve killed the problem. I´m still testing. I´ll try to explain what I´ve done. I pushed the propeller shaft up with a bar and set a strong 1/2 inch rubber tube around the inner of the part. Leaving the the propeller shaft sitting again it was easy to see that it was in a new angle and position. Now testing the car I still have the vibration but in different conditions. It is not to strong in high speed and it occurs most part of the times when I´m accelerating when starting to move. Well I really hope having found out the problem. In case of wanting to buy this part do you have a good suggestion to order in U.S. and ship to Brazil? Once I´ve tried the Subaru´s part.com and it took so long for the delivery.... Going back to your new idea. If you could explain it better. Thanks again, best wishes, Bruno |

Prop shaft play.
Hi Bruno
What I am taking from your post [your English is way ahead of my Portuguese ] is you think the vibration may be caused by looseness in the prop shaft, and is probably in the Universal Joint [UJ] which allows movement. This could well be so, some of your replies suggested this. If it proves to be the case that this part needs replacement, post a message on the Buy and Sell Forum here that you need the part, before you buy new. Some of the members have changed from auto transmission to manual transmission. They may have replaced the whole rear drive to do this, and if so will have the piece you need. Todd [wawazat] has a wrecked car for spares, and he would probably have the part you need also. If you are not happy with the Subaru dealer mechanics, a good source is find out some locals involved in Rally driving. They will have expert mechanics helping them who thoroughly know 4WD cars like Imprezas. These guys can check out your problem pronto. Joe

Welcome again Bruno. You are one of the " do it yourself people " trying to sort your own problems and you will find many friends here. Your English is so far above much of what appears here that you should be VERY proud of yourself. What ever you do keep posting !

Hello from Austria!
Hello Bruno!
Nice greetings from Austria and welcome to the club. I think I am the only poster from Autria in this forum, so are you Bruno, or are there others from Brazil? But believe me. You will never be alone here. It's the greatest forum I have ever been to. It's really a great family and I would love to meet them all up once in my life. Wish you the best with your SVX Bruno. P.S. How many people live in Brazil? Only 17 SVX's in such a big country seems to be a record! I thought there are few in Austria (we have got about 30)! mfg hrc

Re: Hello from Austria!
Hi McFly,
The family is growing in front of my eyes. Thank you for the welcome. It´s true there are only 17 SVX in Brazil. The price of these cars when I first saw one in 1992 was US$ 120,000. People think twice before paying this amount in a car. Best regards, Bruno |

It is great to get all this warmness! This makes our day, life much better. I was thinking if we could start exchanging photographs in this forum. My idea with this photos was to present ourselves, our cars and specially our places. I will get some pictures and start sending them! Best wishes, Bruno |

Hi, sorry to bring up an old topic but I'm having the same problem. Although mine also does it in park, so it may be the mounts. But I was wondering if you ever found out for sure what it was?
