stock carrier...
ok, so some of you already know about my 5spd and the rear end issue...those who dont know, i did a 99impreza swap with matching rear end because when i bought the car it had a a 5spd swap with matching rear end from a supposed 92legacy turbo but i coulnd find rear cv shafts to r&r the broken ones (whatever the axles were from fit the rear end and the hubs)
so i dont have the stock carrier and i was told i need it to swap the gears from the the impreza to the svx carrier in order to use the stock svx rear cv shafts. the issue with the impreza shafts is they dont fit in the svx hubs. i need advice on what to do. change the hubs to accomidate the impreza shafts? buy a svx carrier? custom shafts?

Re: stock carrier...
Get the SVX 3.54 carrier. It's easy enough to swap it over and much easier trying to mess with axles from other cars and messing with the SVX hubs.
If you want, I have a few extra complete 3.54 rear diffs. I can pull out the carrier and send it to you if you want. It will fit in a flat rate box from USPS so shipping would only be around $10 or so |

Re: stock carrier...
thanks for the offer, but i got ahold of Tom and he straightend me out...the SVXi is alive and kicking! i drove her pretty hard just now to get a feel of it and she drove wonderfully! a few things i need to change like the shifter for example....it sits too far forward and its sloppy, any advice there?
everything else is really cosmetic and electrical

Re: stock carrier...
From what I've heard, getting a short shifter kit will help a lot. Changing the shifter bushings, etc. I will be putting in a 5 spd in my silver and will putting a 5 spd in a buddy's SVX this winter while they're off the road so I'll be trying to get everything nice and tight as well.
Glad you got it worked out, now go out and enjoy it! |
