Where is Subaru design going?

Why is it Subaru can only make ugly cars of late? Yes our beloved marque was always a bit "odd", but they are getting ugly down to a science. I agree with Alan, the EVO X will kill the WRX STI in looks, if not performance, which remains to be seen.

Hyundais and Kias look like vintage Ferraris compared to the newer Subarus.

Subaru is confusing "different" with "weird and ugly".

I don't know...maybe it's cheaper to make them that way....I wish they wouldn't, but it does keep me from buying right now...LOL.....I need to save up about 5 years worth before I buy another suby. Maybe by then they will have one wicked looking car.

I wouldn't go that far. The XT was the coolest looking car on the road when it was introduced, and the same goes for the SVX... which is STILL tops, in my book. I even liked the looks of my boxy '86 GL wagon. It's the Impreza, man. They've been trying to make an appealing package out of that thing for 15 years now. Imagine if Ford had kept the Edsel around for a decade and a half, making every iteration progressively uglier.

I think our 07 Outback XT wagon is nice looking car. The styling isn't great, but it is not downright ugly like the front of the Tribeca.

My father's 98 impreza RS was a nice design for a smaller car and I've always liked the looks of the legacy GT...I think the years were around 98-2000?

Anyways, don't manufacturers try to change a car's design every 5 years or so?

It's funny, I remember somewhere I saw a pic where someone photoshopped a civic grille onto the new WRX. Or maybe it was a WRX grille onto the new civic... I can't remember lol.

It's not a big mystery - Subaru is trying to sell cars. I keep reading "looks like a Mazda crossed with a Civic" or something along that vein. I think I may have written that myself. Well, are Civics and Mazdas selling? Maybe there's something in that style people like? I'm not talking about enthusiasts, I'm talking about the great majority of people that are buying cars and that make the bottom line.
And - as for the enthusiast buyer, I'll bet that if the product outruns the competition, the styling will not be a consideration. In fact it will magically become "beloved".

Subaru can't reach out to a growing community of buyers? I bet you wouldn't be saying that if the ad included a family and the highways turned into a cross.
