Now that the Impreza has been reborn, I wonder if it will grow up.

Mazda?

Is it just me, or do I see a lot of Mazda3 in their design?
I, for one, am disappointed. Before the SVX, I drove a 2002 WRX wagon for a year and loved the bugeyes. The current WRX face has even grown on me. Their 'new' look doesn't cut it for me.

Its not only Mazda, u can see a lot many other cars in the current design and 0% creativity. Seems like Subaru is going to be a funky/copier brand rather than an executive brand, have to wait and see what they will do with legacy and forester for 2009 .

I'm jumping ship if they keep this trend up. I can see the Camry and I can see the Mazda and a bunch of other crap in these designs. I don't like Subaru because it's mainstream I like it because it [was] different.

"Different" can be very risky when the idea is to make a profit. Mainstream is mainstream because it sells cars. If anything, I think Subaru reacts far too quickly to the reactions it's "different" styling has brought. I keep reminding anyone that will listen that there was widespread shock and horror to the original bugeye Impreza. Ditto the Tribeca. Take a look at the 2008 Tribeca now - very mainstream in my opinion, and very boring. But - it's going to sell more Tribecas.
I don't care much for the 2008 design either, by the way. At least not at first glance on paper. I imagine - if the car performs well - that much of this shock and horror will fade away. Does it outperform the old Impreza? Hmmmmmm...you know, the design is starting to grow on me....

Ahh I don't really care about all of this. I'm going to probably be moving to a Legacy once I get a job and save up some money. I will be trading in the 2.5i. It's a nice car....but not a lot in it for paying 18k. I should have actually looked for a low mileage used legacy from the dealer....oh well.

Ugly increases, performance increases, price increases.

Gimme the 3.6 in a coupe in a very aerodynamic, sweet looking shell and I'll be happy. I don't care how the car performs if it's common. I can get a better looking vehicle for less and make it perform better.

i liked the bugeye - enough that i bought one even and still have it. i think the original WRX would have been even more popular if Subaru had included the JDM projector headlights in our version.

i think the shock and horror hasn't dissipated for the Tribeca - it still is, and always will be, butt-ugly.

I like the bug-eye WRX as well, Alan. I don't like the new WRX hatchback. Looks just like the Ford Focus, especially in the front, except for the taillights. Boring as hell. Such a shame. They will still be producing the 4-door sedan alongside the new hatch model, so all is not lost for those wanting an '08 WRX that looks nice.

Now what I want to see is the Forester STi concept car sold here in the states. That vehicle is fine as hell!

Come on people lets welcome the new 4 door SEAT Ibiza WRX into the family.

I actually don't find it too bad, but I do wish they kept more of the original Subaru cues like frameless windows and perhaps dual tailpipes would have been cool.

frameless windows suck - i cringe when passengers grab the glass to shut the doors if the window is partially down, and they get funk around the edge that needs to be cleaned off where the glass meets the rubber seal.
