Car keeps running! after I turn it off!

So I got home today and turned the key to off and removed the key, and the car kept running. Almost died but then kept running, all the little lights came on after the key was out of ignition but they were very dim, and the rpm gauge was twitching, but still working. So I put the key back in and then put it at on and the lights came on like when you first start it up. Then I turned it off and the engine still ran. It ran like this for about 2 minutes. I was going to pull the ign. fuse and it just died, before I got a chance. I started it back up and it works like normal again. I dont get it. The car turns off now, but who knows about later. I dont know whats going on. Does anyone know why it would do this?

I don't know how the switch works. I imagine it could be anywhere in the ignition system leading from the starter. Could be an arc fault.

An intermittent mechanical fault within the ignition switch does make sense. Contacts sticking, barrel sticking, whatever. Try some CRC or equivalent into all parts of it. Poor thing is probably overworked and dry as a chip.

theres a 10 character limit.....so you cant just type yes and hit submit...u have to include something else so that it meets the 10 character thing

Hitting the numbers in sequence 12345 is a NASIOC fad. Most people elsewhere just note the character limit as "6char" "10char' "eleventybillionchar"

what type of gas are you putting in it?? if your putting a very low grade gas in the car that can cause whats called "dieseling" what happends is the cylenders get hot enough to keep the engine running on low octane gas.... its common with my friends mud truck hes got a chevy big block that if your put any thing but 110 race gas in it... the thing gets VERY angry when you try to shut it down
