What's up with the SVX glovebox?
A recent thread on removing the security box on a 92 made me wonder about this....
Did one of the design engineers have an errant glovebox spontaneously fly out and maliciously attack their passenger? I lost count of how many screws had to come out when I had to take off my shoes. |

There are many screws and bolts that holds it in. Just another reason to buy a SVX with dual airbags! |

I've had it out & back in several times with tests for failures of the security system and the power door locks. The hardest part (I think) is getting loose the travel limit arm (or whatever it's called) on the right side.
I just can't figure out why they put so many screws into the thing. |

I don't have that trouble on my car. I have my security module in the trunk.

What's worse than having to remove all those screws to access the security module behind the glove box?...................
Finding out after you've removed everything that the security module isn't even there- it's in your trunk!! (I've got a '94 with a security module that died...... I'm probably the one that inadvertently got this thread started in the first place.) -Mark |

That's OK; I was originally going by the information that was in the factory manual. I even looked in the supplements and didn't see any specific reference to the re-location of the module.
I even asked one of the more knowledgeable tech's at the Subaru dealership and he didn't remember where it was either. One of our SVX 'brothers' gave me a 'heads up' on the new location and I've since replaced it with a universal remote start/security/etc. unit. Works pretty good, but I'm still fiddlin' with some of the wiring and settings. -Mark |

I know what really happened. There was a mix up at the factory.
The gave the glovebox plans to the transmission engineer and the transmission plans to the glovebox engineer. |

Ok, so we tried getting the glovebox out of the parts car this past weekend. You guys are not kidding. There are about a million screws. And wouldn't you know it, the last one we had is stripped, we have to drill it out......
And I'm the small one that can fit under the dash.... ~~Michelle

When I took out my glovebox also to install a new alarm, and I never found the alarm module, I put the glove box back together - I had at least 20 screws that I didn't put back in! Well, it still works fine.
