Flat Head engines, or Side Valve engines.... I think that's what they call them... AMC made them in the Rambler

1. Rotary
2. 2 stroke, and yes its an auto engine in a vauxhall and I think there were some little three wheelers by Citreon and another UK company.

the flat head did have a camshaft, geared to the crank, connected straight to the valves. smart design, few moving parts...including the car itself

Man, I'm all messed up tonight... I can't believe that I didn't know the steam engine!!! That worked on the same basic way as a 2 stroke right... I don't mean with 4 phases in 4 strokes but with 4 phases in 2 strokes...

I guess over the years there have been many odd configurations that could be construed as "engines". No - I'm not thinking of the two cycle variety. Another hint: Think Jeep.

or you could go to the new air and space museum up in DC it had the biggest turbo and engines I have ever seen to mention a space shuttle, SR-71 blackbird, A-6, New XJ35B
ton's of engines....cool as hell
one was a 19 liter inline six....3.1333333 L per cylinder!!!!
a 36 cylinder engine...V's U's W's H's I's...everything!!
cool place highly recommend seeing if you are in the area
