Condensation in Tail lights

I know that this has been discussed in the past and I read some posts but didn't find satisfaction. Changed out my tail lights to Apkarian's. When they came, they had some condensation in them. That's not a complaint; I remember what it's like to live in humidity. I took them back off, laid them out in front of a fan for several days. Then, I siliconed them where the black plastic meets the lenses- a very thorough and tidy taped off job. I put them back in and they've been fine for weeks until I took a trip the other day. There was no rain or snow, but a bit of moisture in the air. I got condensation in the left tail light and middle light bar. The right tail light is fine so I assume I just didn't get all the moisture out and have to do it again because I just don't see how that much moisture could have gotten in there. I'm just amazed, though. Our relative humidity is usually 30% or less. Any other suggestions for drying them out?

Re: Condensation in Tail lights

Hair dryer. But before you do that, you might try working up a fixture that would seal the bulb opening and allow you to put compressed air in. This way you could spray slightly soapy water around the outside of the housing to see where your leak(s) is/are.

Re: Condensation in Tail lights

Being in the electronics field - we use special RTV silicon (sorry cannot remember the name - but it does not out-gas or have acetic acid/vinegar smell).

This out-gasing/vinegar smell will cause paint to peel away & allow moisture to get under / into what ever you were wanting to seal......not good with electronics......
