Question Question about legacy transmission

I came across a good 97 legacy 2.5 transmission and matching rear diff. If i'm not mistaken it's a 4.44. The price is $500 for both. I haven't driven or worked on my SVX in about 2 years so i'm sort of out of the loop about parts prices. Is is a good deal?

Should be ok. My closest, and cheapest is 450 for the tranny alone. Then a little further is 600 for the tranny alone

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...highlight=4.44 Post #18 for the confirmation numbers for 4.44

Sounds good. let's get your car back on the road in time for the next big LA meet next year

If you want to update any seals in the transmission, etc., let me know, this is not a big expense at all. Also, you will need to swap the SVX viscous into the 4.444 diff to make it compatible

Re: Question about legacy transmission

I think I'm going to pick it up, I'll have to see about the few specifics. Originally the donor car is from upstate NY, so the diff housing might be a rust bucket... Thanks for the offer on the 5 speed, but I want to stick with an auto for now to keep things simple.

The only issue you might have is with the side plates being corroded and breaking off or the side plate bolts. The rear diff case rusts off all the paint but stays completely solid and no issues with any that I've had...
