I work for a Tow Truck Company and considering their contract with different police departments and with highway patrol, most officers l00k for a possible 30day impound . Having a loud exhaust, aftermarket cold air intake and few other goodies is considered a modified vehicle and can to be impounded. Some smog shops won't smog so it sux. So really having a loud bright car can lead to a pull over, but if the officer thinks you don't have a valid CA drivers license then you have a greater chance of getting pulled over. That is how it seems in the area i work. I have seen more 30 day impounds then any other ...

My 2 cents

All I know is that I have a red and a silver. Never been pulled over in the silver, been pulled over about 7 times in the red.

Maybe he feels better and drives faster in the red one.

The human eye is attracted to red more then any other color. Just the way it is. When a silver and red car flash by, the human eye will focus on the red one, regardless what other factors are present. As a simple test, have somone take red index cards and mix them with other colors. Have them flash them two at a time, one in each hand, and see how often you turn towards the red side.

I think I did that while looking at your signature. The red letters definitely stood out.

Of all the cars I have seen pulled over, very few of them have been red. I see more beat up-looking cars get pulled over than anything.

We've never had too much of a problem in any of our cars. The F car is red, the spider is red, and the V6 is silver. None of them pulled over. I have heard about the red car curse before but we knock on enough wood i guess.

It's not just red cars, but black as well. I read a report a few months ago talking about how like 20% of cars that got ticketed were red, and about 20% were black, and how that's "descriminating" on car color picking them out, etc, etc. There was a counter-report as well though, that said that about 20% of cars on the road were red, and 20% were black, so the ratio's were the same, but the raw numbers seemed skewed.

I don't remember the exact %'s but they were somewhere in that area, there's just more red and black cars on the road than there are other colors.

What about mine?
And in regard to below statement:
When I was a kid on a very boring summer day, me and my friend would actually count cars. there's roughtly the same amount of black and white cars, second most common is silver, followed by gold, red, green, blue, purple, yellow, orange

Also speaking from body shop experiance....Silver is the most common color, followed by black, gold, red, ect. ect. Ive done so many silver cars I can tell you the paint codes for most major manfaturers silver colors post year 2000.
I can also tell you from such experiance that you cant throw a rock without hitting sevral silver honda civics / accords and Nissan Maximas / Altimas

Anyway I am gonna get a red Alfa soon (yep, its damn pretty), so I want to be aware of all the consequences that I may face with a red car.
What difference does it make for maintaining a red car??

-Pavan.
I drive red, and have noticed no 'excessive' amount of police presence in the rear view. I have heard that insurance co's tend to pay more claims on red cars. The only thing that I can add is that red seems to be hard to see at night. Most of the 'emergency' vehicles in our area are going with yellow and bright green, or white w red glow in the dark stripes.
I had a red subi on my white and yellow tow truck one night, I looked out the window and thought that someone had stolen the subi. I could not see it . I walked outside and ,when I was within 30' of the tow truck, I saw the bright red subi, still hooked up.

I could see the other colors from 150 ft!

my last 2 cars plus my 95 svx were red - no extra police attention that I was aware of.
But my wife did point out once on a trip out in the long flat plains where you can see for miles - a red car approaching will stand out more compared to any other colour in the distance - and it's very true - I would have thought yellow but try it - I was surprised at what a difference the colour makes in the distance
