Car won't start w/new engine management

Well, It's been a long time, but I've finally finished putting together the old suby and I'm trying to start her up. I keep getting a rapid check engine flash and no go when I try to start. Any ideas what might be going on. I'm hoping its not a security shut down of my ignition.

Have you tried to pull the CEL codes? What type of 'new engine management' are you using?

Good Luck,
Dan

Electromotive Tec II. I don't see any power light flashes, so I can't really pull a code. The injectors and plug igniters are the only things that have been disconnected. I'm getting ready to see if juice is getting to my starter. Also the fuel pump is not cutting on.

Flashing Power light is for transmission codes. Check engine light is for engine codes. Check out this thread for how to pull the codes:

Thanks

Awesome thanks. Right now I just get a flickering Check engine light that never stops. Not like the blinking power light which gives you a particular number. I will try this and see if it will tell me what is going on. I will also try to clear the codes.

will the engine turn over and just not fire up or are you getting no action from the starter?? Make sure you didn't mess with the ignition curcuit in your wiring and make sure it is in N or Park

So no codes=steady blink at 1/4 second intervals? That is what its doing. I should be getting EGR and injector codes, but for some reason I am getting none. It seems that my fuel pump and starter is not functioning, so I cannot start the car. Anyone a good subaru electronics mechanic want to make a housecall to Orlando Florida?

Well lets think about this logically.

1. When the key is turned to the on/start position are the dash lights on? If so, what lights are on?

2. Is your battery fully charged?

3. Check the pinouts and make sure that you did not interupt the ignition circuit in anyway

Do these three things and work from there

Help!!

OK. I started getting codes. They are all of the injector codes. Does this disable the ignition? If it does, I'm going to have a tough time trying to make this work with the car's stock engine management. Any way to over ride this?

Problems

The dash lights are Steering, oil, battery, power, manual, stop lamp, brake, abs, airbag (dim). Then after trying to start all of these plus the check engine light. The engine management isn't even plugged in. I'm just trying to turn it over a bit before trying to start it. I'm getting a lot of clicking which sounds like it is comming from the starter. I'm also getting clicking in the dash. It's almost like the security has kicked in an is disabling the fuel pump and starter. Sometimes when I am starting, it all of a sudden acts like it is not getting enough juice. Then when I shut down and come back, it juices back up. Like something is grounding the ignition sequence.

not sure exactly what you have done in the lines of wiring and what you have disconnected. I would suggest putting it back to stock and making sure it works that way, then go ahead with the engine management

That would be difficult and should not be necessary. As far as wiring goes, I have just tapped into power in a few spots. Nothing unusual. Most of the wiring has to do with the new engine management and does not affect the car. I have a feeling that it has just sat too long. I really think that its something to do with the security system. Any idea what exactly that does? Shut down starter and fuel? If both were not out I would think it was just a starter problem. Do you know if injector codes would force the ECU to not start?

One thing to check that I remember from my Megasquirt experiments on the old XT was to be sure that the power leads you are tapped into have continuous power. Some will be cutoff when the starter is engaged (like the headlights, I believe, are cutoff when the starter is turning)

Should be an easy check with the voltmeter. Good luck

Didn't even think of that. He is right, some power leads will be shut down upon turning th ingition into the start position. You are best of checking these leads to be sure you are under continuous power. Also double check your wiring and make sure you are not grounding out a circuit when you hit the ignition

I'll check this out, but I don't think this is an issue either. All I am really concerned with is that the starter gets power. One of the leads getting grounded would cause a problem though. I really think that it is a security issue. Anyone know how to reset the security system?
