The places she went were saturated with low levels of gamma radiation, but as she demonstrated most of the fallout has been absorbed into the wildlife so it was much safer to remain on concrete, and use her geiger counter to avoid more dangerous hot spots.

My wife and I were on vacation in then Communist Hungary when Chernobyl had their 'incident'. I'll just say, it was very interesting to read about it after I returned to the USA to see what the non Communist version of the story was . . .
