Driver's Side Seat Latch Broken!?

Ok... this is a weird one... hopefully there is another solution besides replacing the whole seat...

Today I went to throw some bags in the backseat of the driver's side of my car. I pulled up on the handle to release the seat forward and heard a pop. Now, the handle moves freely and the seat doesn't budge. I'm assuming some $0.50 piece of plastic cracked in the mechanism or something.

Has anybody had this happen to them? Is there a way to fix it (other than replacing the whole seat?)

?

Dan

You are going to have to take off the seat-back to see what is broken, and do a repair on it.

Should be easy enough. The lever that is likely to be broken is not listed as a separate part on Subaruparts.com, see:

http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=640-B

Can't think of another way.

Joe

Driver's seat

I have the same problem with my driver's seat. Since this isn't a critical function, it falls somewhere toward the bottom of my SVX TO-DO list (we all have them, don't we). I just have my rear seat passengers (my 4 and 5 year old) both enter from the passenger side. I will probably get around to fixing it when I install seat heaters this coming Spring.

Ok.... REALLY dumb question:

I went to look into what broke and I can't figure out how to get the headrest off the seat. I know I'm missing something obvious. Can anyone help?

That's actually a GOOD question

I have never taken mine off, so I don't know.

Can anyone enlighten us?

Joe

Thumbs up Found it!!

There is a little locking device. I was looking at the headrest, and having little luck pulling it up, when I found this little steel wire, which I thought was a broken spring or something. It isn't.

[Remembering that my driver seat is your rhs passenger seat]

On the driver seat at the front of the headrest, force down the soft upholstered part under the rhs chrome bar or spigot which slots the headrest in place.

There you will find a piece of strong wire, about 3/4 inch long facing forward. Push this piece of wire anticlockwise and pull up the headrest. It should release easily.

Hate to say it but you've broken the cable. The cable is different for the driver's seat compared to the passenger's seat.

I doubt you'll find a part # for just the cable. I have heard that some people have used bicycle cable to replace theirs.

If you do find a part number let us know. I'm currently using the smaller passenger cable and wouldn't mind replacing mine with a proper one.

I try to look at it again tomorrow now that i know where the wire is to remove the headsets. (Thank You!)

Bicycle cable could work... I really dont wanna have to buy a new seat!

Has anybody ever taken a RHD drivers seat and replaced a LHD passenger seat with it?

I would love to have two power seats...
