Hellish vibration!
After the big snowstorm week up here in Indiana, I've
been having lots of fun playin around in the snow with my SVX. After backing up into a big snow drift in my parking spot at the school parking lot, I've noticed a pretty heavy vibration at 55 MPH and up. It doesn't vibrate at all below 50. I got studded snow tires on the SVX, which aren't flat (though they are about 29-31 PSI), and they were balanced when they were put on in late December '03. It was only recently that it started to vibrate, so I'm thinking its either a chunk of ice that's frozen on the inside of one of my wheels after driving up into a few big snow drifts... or I've royally bashed the crap outta one of my axels or something.. Anyone know what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

Oh Yeah. I think you got snow/ice on the insdie of the rim. A couple of buckets of hot water should do the trick.
It's a pretty common problem on my cars after they sit in the sun all day long.

This same thing has happened to me twice right after i went playing in the snow.
It had to be snow or ice packed on the rim, because it cleared up the next time i drove the car. Give it a chance, it should clear up. Sure is fun to play in the snow with it though, isn't it? |

Happened to me too. I got ice in one of the rims and vibration above 50-55mph. I had it in the rear right tire. The whole damn car was shaking, it really scared the hell out of me.

Same here the other day after playing in the snow. Over 55 was annoying but 60+ was undriveable, it shook so bad. Once it sat in the sun and the ice fell off the inside of the wheels (with a little poking from me) things returned to their smooth self.

Thanks very much everyone, turns out it was snow or
ice, cleared right up after a nice warm sunbath. Scared the bejeebus outta me though. And yea, it sure is fun to play in the snow, been doing donuts in the cul-de-sacs in my neighborhood whenever I get the chance to, so fun. Gotta love this car. |

Swing by Home Depot. Pick up a 1/2 inch wooden dowel... approximately 2 feet in length. Whittle one end to a semi flat point.
The perfect snow/ice removal tool for rims. Credit goes to Tim O'Neil. Fitz www.Flat4Racing.com |

yeah i had the same thing happen to me... kinda crazy that just a little snow packed in the wheel can thow of the balancing that much... maybe i just need to heat my rotors up to "porter" hot, and that should take care of any snow
