Misc. Ramblings

1) I tried a new product to remove the yellow from the headlight lenses on my '92, yesterday. It did not work. Cascade, the dishwashing detergent company have a plastic "destainer & cleaner " for use in automatic dishwashers. It supposed to clean red (tomato sauce stains from tupperware and the like. It was only $2.98 in the supermarket. It comes in a tube like some kind of creamy toothpaste. I put some on a clean paper towel, rubbed it on the headlight lens and used awet paper towels to remove it.
It doesn't work. The "Barkeepers Friend" cleanser works much, much better.

2) I had the tires balanced and rotated on the '92 Sat. morning. I am pleased to report that the high speed, 65+ mph, vibration is gone. The Yoko AVS dBs have a lot more thread on them than I thought. I may not have to buy new tires in Dec.

3) I noticed that I may need the PS reservoir O-Ring changeout on my '92. Maybe I should invite Randy and family over for Christmas. I wonder if Kentuckians like lasagna and Italian pastry?

4) I hope that Mr. & Mrs. SVXer (they shall remain nameless) had a great time in the Jacuzzi at the motel in south Jersey, Saturday night.

5) I was reading a recent issue of Drive Magazine. This is the periodical that Subaru sends out to their customers. There was an article it on the joys of walking alone. The gist of the article was that it gives you quiet time to compose your thoughts and commune with nature. I found it funny, in an ironic sense, that a car company would publish an article on the joys of walking. Maybe they really did know something about the SVX trannys.

More Misc. Ramblings

1) The latest issue of Drive Magazine (Subaru's mag.) has a small blurb about Subaru joining Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. to offer some kind of special auto insurance to Subie ownwers. I have Liberty Mutual auto insurance now. I will look into it and report back .

2) I signed up for the new Subaru Mastercard. I have not received it yet but the real APR for it (after the promo APR) is a couple of points better than my current ATT Mastercard.

3) I have to be in Rahway, NJ today on business. A bunch of us are going up to Merck by minivan via "Da Turnpike." If I see any SVXes I'll be sure to post tonight.

4) Has anyone sent anything about the 10th Anniv. SVX Meet & this club to Drive Magazine, or must I do it?

5) Congratulations to all the Calif. SVXers who are Angels & Giant fans. Looks like an all left coast World Series.

Larry-

I was under the impression that SIA was going to contact Drive Mag. I've been watching the issues very closely for our picture and a writeup.

Another Note...

I carry my policy with Liberty Mutual as well... I'll have to dig out my Drive and read that article.

Larry, I'm no expert here, but I think if the threads are showing, you should not wait until December to replace the tires.

Seriously though, once upon a time in traffic court, I was awaiting my turn at bat, and a girl in front of me stood up and told the judge that she was driving 85 in a 55 mph zone because she had really bad tires and she was in a hurry to get off the highway... the cop who gave her the ticket managed to keep a straight face as he said, "well, yes your honor, her tires were in pretty bad shape".

1) The link between Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. and Subaru basically gives you a 10% discount on the premium of your auto insurance.

2) The current edition of Drive magazine has article on the Torque Converter, Maintainence is a joint resposbility of the manufacturer, dealer and owner, and finally How to prepare for getting stuck and being stranded in your vehicle.

Oh Oh, maybe they are trying to tell us something.

More Misc. Ramblings

I just received the latest issue of Mech. Engineering which is the house mag. for the ASME (Amer. Society of Mech. Eng'rs.).

Subaru has a full page ad in it for the Outback.

The picture shows a burgundy Outback VDC wagon parked in front of Griffith Obsevervatory.

The headling caption reads,

"GENIUS SEEKS SAME."
"A smart car for smart people."

The copy reads that the Outback VDC sytem works in conjunction with AWD and is a smart system which is especially appreciated by smart people. They never mentioned performance or the six cyl. engine.
I guess their marketing people have not learned yet.

Most engineers that I know are knowledgeable about cars but not about driving. Most have SUVs.

Maybe GM can help Subaru with their marketing.

PS: Don, I'll mail this mag. to you. I know you're an astonomy (or is it astrology?) buff. Send me a PM or e-mail with your addy.
