SVX 4EAT problem
Hi, everyone!
Does anybody know about SVX 4EAT details compatibility to other Subaru models (Legacy for instance). I have SVX AWD 1992. Recently got a problem with broken rear planetary gear as shown on photo (please click the link): www.geocities.com/yury_semka/page23.html I would be grateful if anybody, as well, could give me a link(s) to European dealers who has mentioned parts in stock. I know one guy who put 400k miles on his Legacy 4EAT....most Legacys get good mileage out of theirs because of the 4.11 gearing.

I can't give you an answer, but I do know that there are differences in the transmissions between what we got in the US and what the rest of the world got.
I just wanted to point this out before you're told that a Legacy trans will swap right in. There's a few members in Europe that are familiar with the differences and should be able too help you out.

Hi man, you are very welcome to the SVX World Network. Congratulations on your first post, and I hope we can help you. [We have a lot of Latvians over here in Ireland helping us at the moment, so it is nice to be able to return the favour, even in a little way] Like the guys said, the Euro and Japan and Oz/NZ cars have a different gearbox to the ones used in the USA. Over there they have a rear drive that is engaged by electric clutch, and controlled by the C solenoid I believe. Yours is bound to be Euro spec, and as such it will be full-time AWD. Your part number you require is listed in this website here: Russian Website They have a marvellous list of parts available, and I believe you can get prices and availability. With you being in Riga, you probably can read Russian, or get someone to read it for you. Personally I get it hard to understand what sections I am poking around in. Your part appears to be #10 in the diagram, if you click 33257 on the side it will give you the part number. I hope this helps, Joe

Many thanks!
Hi, everyone!
I'm very grateful to Manarius, Hocrest and, particularly, to Svxistentialist who immediately responded right after my message appeared on the forum. It is good to know that there are people who takes someone's problem as their own! Personally to Joe (Svxistentialist): of course, I can read Russian, cause it is my native language and, as long as I am mechanic-engineer, I could help you to translate some parts titles (or else) from Russian automotive sites in English if you need. I would like as well to express my gratitude to all members who might add their postreplies. Yury Last edited by Yury; 09-27-2007 at 04:16 AM. |

Hi Yury
Will you be able to get your parts from those guys? Your original question asked if the parts are interchangeable with other models. This is a difficult one to answer. It is more likely this can be done on a macro level, rather than by substituting individual components. What I mean by this [macro swap] is it would be more possible to use the total gearbox and rear diff to match from a suitably 4EAT equipped Legacy, than to expect components from these boxes to mesh with what parts you have that have been stripped and damaged. In the case of your shaft 33257, you will see it also is used in Imprezas post 1998. However the Subaru part number comes up different for the Impreza, so you would be taking a chance on it being exactly the same. From my own experience if you wish to swap gearboxes you need to use the one from the Japanese Legacy Twin Turbo, or possibly from a Japanese WRX auto. In both these cases the boxes will be the full-time AWD type like that in the SVX. For the vast majority of available Legacy autos and non-powerful Imprezas, they use the cheaper US type gearbox with rear assist. Your translation offer is much appreciated. It would be great if we had translations of the link headings in this website. Then we would have a better idea what we were searching through Joe
