Re: The people have spoken!
I voted for Obama. Not because he is black, or a Democrat, but because he showed the most experience as a middle class citizen in the United States and may have a better understanding of what problems we face, and he has the will and desire to rectify them. Additionally, I am hopeful that he will be more understanding of the struggle for equal rights SOME of us Americans still struggle to obtain. On a side note, approx. 69% of Obama's money came from donors of 200.00 or less. Only 19% came from over 2000.00. Think about it. I am satisfied with the outcome of the election and optimistic about the next four years.

Re: The people have spoken!
Instead of going back and forth about the election, I will say this... IF and only IF Obama can come through with his promises, and they work to better this country w/o socialist tactics, may I change my opinion and foresight... It would be a great thing to see it happen but I am thoroughly doubtful.

And I agree with another post that said that the whites that voted against Obama because he is black pretty much balance out those blacks that voted for him simply because he was black. Were there a bunch in both arenas? You bet. But interestingly enough, here in Winchester, VA, the town went Democratic in the national election for the first time since 1962 - all "local" Republicans won. And look at the states that were previously Republican that went Democratic. And 52% of the popular vote says a lot - people were fed up with what this country has become in the last eight years. Take personalities out of the picture all together. Would you put the party that has us in the current mess back in office? Another view as well: What If What if... Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?.....think about it. Would the country's collective point of view be different? Ponder the following: What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter? What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class? What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee? What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards? What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married? What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard? What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.) What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker? What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter? What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes? What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem? What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution? What if the Obamas had adopted a white child? If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are? Educational Background: Barack Obama: Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations. Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude Joseph Biden: University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science. Re: The people have spoken!
Okay first off man calm down .
I did not consider their family matters or similar matters in to account when I voted. What I took into consideration is their policies. I could give a **** less about color. I'm probably the youngest voter on here considering I turned 18 in august. What made this election so wrong is how ill informed the voters are. I did my research I went in with an open mind but after hearing his stances on things I choose to cast my vote for McCain. Not saying he'd be so great. Why does everyone put the blame on Bush. Look back in voting history and see how Clinton helped us get into this housing crisis by the Housing Acts. Forcing banks to loan to people even if they are high risk. Guess what would happen if they didnt? They would get fined big time. I'm not a party man, I'm registered unaffiliated for a reason. Its so easy to put the blame on our current president but when in fact its just stuff catching up to us. We have allowed ourselves to be charmed in to getting a person with military and hardly any political experience (compared to majority of people) in to office. Think of it like Landshark said. Many small business will be closing before the year is out mark my words.

Re: The people have spoken!
Please compare Obama's acceptance speech with Bush's. Obama went out of his way to reach out to those who didn't vote for him and to stress that we all have to work together to address our very serious problems. Bush said that the election had given him "Political Capital" and he was going to spend it as he saw fit, which was a polite way of saying "f*ck you" to the people who voted against him.
I will also say the McCain's concession speech was very gracious. It is really nice for a change to listen to a president-elect who has a brain and can articulate what is in it.

Re: The people have spoken!
Jerry,
That's great. I respect anyone that looks at the facts of a matter and makes an informed decision. I respect also your right to differ with my opinion on the same facts and vote accordingly. But I expect the same respect in return, and Alan did not accomplish that by calling anyone that voted for Obama an idiot. I also believe, like many, that we should fire all in Congress and start over - the people "started to do that" in 2006 and continued the effort in 2008. Now we are "starting" over with a new president. Will he be perfect? Nope, probably not close to perfect, but clearly much better than what we currently have (even McCain seems to imply that) and better than McCain... But I still love you like a brother, Jerry ...... But not Alan, until he changes his tune and stops calling people names Harry

McCain's speech was VERY gracious. And I have had people locally tell me that the McCain speech "sounded" like the McCain of 2000. And if he had run his campaign in that manner without all the nastyness, he very possibly would have won. But he had way too much Bush baggage to really have a shot at it. And 52% of the American public voting for Obama is pretty amazing. Harry

Re: The people have spoken!
Hi everyone, Glad to see everyone enjoyed the election. Of course several of the posters are much more eloquent than I am. I read today that minorities, single woman and young whites went foe Obama. Of course being a 69yo married lifelong white guy I guess I didn't fit the formula. And last but not least, We didn't elect a king. Nothing will happen without the congress passing a bill that makes it happen. Of course no matter what the bill says, the current guy would sign a little disclaimer that said I signed the bill but I'm not going to do what ever the bill says. Hopefully we will get rid of that. Take care, BOBB
