Synthetic oil or regular oil and filter questions.
#1... If synthetic oil makes the car leak oil, would switching back to regular motor oil slow the leaking down. Talking about the rear main bearing seal leak.
#2... Has anyone opted to change the oil filter more frequent instead of changing the oil. Maybe every 1000 miles? Thanks in advance for any input. Keith |

i didn't know about synthetic making the car leak oil...i've heard about using synthetic and the car burning oil..
but i dont think changing the oil will slow a leak~

Re: Synthetic oil or regular oil and filter questions.
Has anyone considered just changing the oil filter more frequent and not changing the oil?
I am considering changing the filter every 1000 miles or so miles and see how the oil does. I notice when changing oil the oil in the filter is always much dirtier than the engine oil on the dipstick. Keith |

Re: Synthetic oil or regular oil and filter questions.
I use synthetic oil and the porche filter and change them both around 5000 miles

Re: Synthetic oil or regular oil and filter questions.
I was told by a race car driver that you can use Mobile one synthetic every 12000 miles but make sure to change the filter every 3000. I never tried it but it sounds like a good idea.

You can always add a little brake fluid to help swell the rubber on your rear main to slow the leak. (I am asking for it huh) I haven't tried it, and don't think I ever will, but it is just something I have heard a few times over the years. This is typically ok from what i have read, and consider it to be good advise (unlike the above bit).

I will start off changing the filter more frequent than 3,000 miles and see how it goes. Maybe 1000 miles first... (today) Then 2000 miles next...(Three weeks from today) then get to the 3000 schedule. *[/SIZE]Has anyone noticed the sharp increase in the price of synthetic? Don't know how synthetic, not a blend, is made, but maybe it is somehow related to the price of a barrel of oil? Could maybe the "greed factor"? Keith |

Re: Synthetic oil or regular oil and filter questions.
Hi Keith, Of course you know that you have to add oil to make up for the oil that is in the filter when you change it. And "Mobil1" has an oil that you change once a year or 12,000 miles which ever comes first. You change the filter at the miles you would change it if you were changing the oil. Take care, BOBB

Re: Synthetic oil or regular oil and filter questions.
Thanks BOBB!
I did know about keeping it on the full line! I use the mobile #1 extra long mileage now... not sure if it is that long or not I will take a look and I will probably end up thereabouts per your information! Thanks, and take care... Keith |
