Re: HELP!! 1996 svx 4EAT question
Quote:
Not impossible, mind, just very, very difficult. Just to add a little information; They list that Jersey gearbox as being from an EG25. Assuming this is correct, you can make a couple of deductions based on that. The first is, for the period mentioned it will be most likely from a Legacy Outback, Japanese variant. [In Japan there was also a Forester 2.5 on sale, but these are rare beasts, the 2.0 turbo is the most common Forester] In turn either of these options will imply that this 4EAT is what the Japanese call the Active Torque Split AWD gearbox. This is good news, because it is the same type auto used in US model SVXes. It has the rear drive electric clutch, plus VSS2 is wired exiting from the front differential near the dipstick to feed the speedo, same as US models. If this gearbox had come from a 2.0 car [EG20] then there are two possible auto types, the US type same as above for non-turbo cars, or the VTD type that was fitted to turbo cars. The VTD type 'box is different, it has VSS2 wired internally and exiting via the left hand cord, and so needs a dedicated TCU. Let us know how the '97 swap goes; the '97 auto will have the benefit of all factory upgrades, and it ought to be plug and play. Best of luck with it. Joe
