Re: Just ordered my new AMR Engineering Coilovers

Editing my recent post to clarify. The Koni's ARE rebuildable, but Koni doesn't seem to be doing a great job lately.

Quote:
Ask svxfiles how long it takes to get replacement (rebuilt) inserts from Koni

Better yet, ask him how many times he has sent struts back to Koni to have them rebuilt and they come back months later with problems. Tom would return them repeatedly until they finally sent him ones rebuilt correctly.
Sent back many sets

We're talking months here...

Re: Just ordered my new AMR Engineering Coilovers

Got my struts in yesterday and they look AMAZING! I got mine powder-coated red. And while the red is more of a true red than the barcelona red, i'm still happy with them

Next step is to find out when my mechanic will be freed up so I can take Samantha over to him and have her new struts put on.

I'll take some pics tonight when I get home and upload them. I was just too tired to do it after work last night.

LIFETIME warranty on the dampers (strut cartridge) They said that in 8 years of production, with over 800 sets, they have never had one blown production damper.

Just tell them the spring rate, etc. or just tell them the kind of ride you want (slightly firmer-than-stock, OEM ride, etc) and they will dial in what you desire.

Warranty can be found HERE

Re: Just ordered my new AMR Engineering Coilovers

So these cost $1500 including shipping? Other than the warranty and the fact that they come from our own country, are there any differences between these and the Ceika ones I've been researching? I'm just trying to put all the pieces together before I buy a set. 92SVX has been happy with his, and no one has installed a set of these yet. I just want real-life tests before I buy anything.

Andy at AMR has a record of his coil overs winning major races, in other words, race proven.

Plus no failures in over 800 units.

I think the question is more "what does the extra ~$500 buy us?"

Re: Just ordered my new AMR Engineering Coilovers

We just don't know anything about the Ceika's yet. They may last just as long. I do however want to hear from those that have bought AMR once they install them. How easy the install was; any obstacles or faulty measurements they came across, ride quality, etc. Obviously we won't know for a few years how they hold out in the long run.

I am not sure what all these numbers mean.
but if this is a option how does this compare to the amr or the Ceika
can we use these numbers as a guide.
for ride height and comfort?

Re: Just ordered my new AMR Engineering Coilovers

Got mine installed yesterday and they feel GREAT! Mechanic had no issues putting them on and had the job done by around 1 (took car in at 9am). I do need to adjust them though at the front end looks little high, while the back is a little low.

Does anyone know how to do that? I was told that you need a tool of some kind to do it? I assume I can just take the wheel off and give it a few cranks, right? Any tips on how to gauge the adjustment so that it's right?

I thought getting new struts would eliminate all the clunking I could hear going over bumps but it hasn't. The mechanic said that my front bushings were shot and if i replaced those, that should fix the last of what i'm hearing. Guess I'll be ordering those next.

My old struts are in my trunk now and I didn't realize how heavy they are. They're enormous compared to the new ones. Now i'm just trying to figure out what to do with them.

Re: Just ordered my new AMR Engineering Coilovers

I thought AMR would have given you a spanner wrench as part of the kit. Just a machined piece that fits into the semi-circular slots on the strut collar. No adjustment instructions in the kit?

I would either look on the box again, or call Andy at AMR. Using the wrench, you should be able to make adjustments while the wheels are on

Mine came with the wrench. Yours were probably supposed to. They were in the box between coilovers.

Re: Just ordered my new AMR Engineering Coilovers

Found it. I missed it when i took the struts out. I also found the little knobs used to adjust them. I wish I had see those BEFORE I had them installed. Then I could have set them to the lowest setting (I like a comfy ride lol) Oh well, I know how to get to them if i need to. Maybe i'll do that when I have the interior redone.

I went to go get my alignment done this morning but found out they couldn't do it because the ball joints were bad. So, I guess I have one more thing to fix before I can really drive this daily again.

At the rate i'm going, its going to be 2020 before I can drive the SVX again
