Introducing unmetered air as a band-aid fix for a specifically known malfunction is a bad idea. Just replace the knock sensor.

As far as the knock sensors go, it could've been that one sensor wasn't enough for six cylinders.

Very true... My old 88 tbi Chevy 350 had only 1 for 8 cyclinders.. thats a little food for thought

That's true. But that doesn't explain the O2 sensors in the front pipes. One sensor located at a point where the front pipes meet would have been enough.

for single knock sensor applications, one o2 sensor is used on one bank of the engine. this is used to manage the engine to it's roundabout efficiency. The SVX does the same thing, only controls both banks like they were individual 3 cylinder engines. One could say we have a twin engine Geo
