Water is for snow....

<...Phil, what are they putting in the water in Finland that would cause a man to go mad like that?!?>

....and for sailing.

Finns drink vodka. Mix that with long winter nights, and you have rally and F1 drivers being born nine months later....

Special regards and genuine congratulations Rob.

You have come back with a sound sensible reply, but there is still that touch of sarcasm. Debating along these lines you will not touch off any flame wars and should be enjoying yourself much more. What is more you are hitting with much more weight.

This message is not intended to be in any way patronizing and I trust you will accept the included good will accordingly.

Hey Trevor, I noticed the same thing. Rob used the "N" word in a positive manner. Good for Mr. Chicane!

Mini more stories

Was chatting with a guy at the gas station recently who had a new Mini-Cooper S that he had just picked up in Winston Salem.
He used to teach school at the same school as my grandmother, and they were good friends! Jean and I got a good look at his Mini and he wanted a good look in the SVT. We exchanged numbers, and are looking forward to a drive in the mountains together this summer.

(in a recent test by Sports Compact Car, the two cars tied for third place out of nine cars)

Don, you've got to quit doing that. I get whiplash reading anythng that has the letters "S" and "V" followed by anything other than an "X."

Rob, no one has ever hated you " for defending your position ". However many have strongly objected to the manner in which you did so and you must now realise that it was not an effective option. If there are people here who hate and doubt that there are, the majority will not want know them.

Special regards to Chicane.

I miss my cooper 1275

Ah the old cooper, I had a nice lttle 70 mini that a swapped in the mini cooper s front and rear end, only part my car was missing was the extra 5.5 gallon gas can in the trunk, so I added one.

I added the austina marina 4 port in 4 port out head, added 4 36 mm motorcycle carbs, and this little fwd car flew like no tomorrow, and still got about 40mpg.
However the transmission sat in the oil pan so a little wear and tear on the engine turned my 4 speed into a 2 speed in about 3000 miles. But ya know, it didn't have climate control

And as far as AWD, wouldn't have made a difference, my rear wheels were only slowing the car down, when they were on the ground. If any of you have ever raced go-carts you may know that on a turn the inside rear wheel leaves the ground. The old cooper was the same, unless both tanks were full.

I may still have pictures somewhere of my mini at the 1/4 mile speedway. 1/4 mile, just under 11 seconds. I was matched up with motorcycles. I even had a spare front end for it. that includes engine, front wheels and brakes, all bolt on with 4 bolts, a steering coupler, throttle cable, one wiring harness and a brake line.

sorry, what were we talking about?

please excuse my o/t o/t babble.

A question....all you Mini-buffs

What was the connection....if any....between the Mini and the Austin America....which I tried unsuccessfully to get my dad to buy for me for a college graduation present.

Heh. Good story man, sounds like a lot of fun. What happened to it? Also, just an FYI, most FWD cars will lift the rear inside tire in a tight curn if they're set up right.

I've always loved Mini Coopers!

If you've never seen it, (or even if you have- a worthy reminder), I would encourage you to watch an old Michael Caine move called "The Italian Job" that had the most terrifc chase scenes in it featuring Mini Coopers.

I wanted to see the movie again, but for the longest time it wasn't available on VHS, so I had to set my alarm so I could tape it off the cable TV one night at about 2:30AM.

(I still don't know if it's available on tape or DVD yet.)
