I may have an used engine for you. I am in the process of closing a deal on a parts car with a bad tranny. I believe the engine is fine.

Larry....simple solution for you. Take a clean terry wash cloth, ball it up & thoroughly soak it in Chivas. Place in right hand & gently squeeze cloth as you slowly press along rubber door seams. Wait about 30 seconds. While waiting, suck on wash cloth. Door may or may not open. Either way you really won't give a rat's butt.
Glad I could help. Ron (works with wine).

Couldn't find just a plain greensvx to ask about an engine - do you have his full handle? I need to make a decision about this car in the next day or so. Any help would be appreciated.

well, that actually happened to me this morning..didn't wash the car at all, just all the extra condensation.
i wouldn't advise putting warm water on the door...when you get to your car later, you'll have the same problem as you did before. i don't know how to stop it from happening with door lock freezing, always heat your key slightly, never pour warm or hot water in there...remember that lesson in school where water expands when it freezes...yeah..that is true stuff..i tried to tell a friend that over the weekend...but then again, girls know nothing... Kelli Larry, why don't you just get a heated blanket for your baby...

Try Green1995SVX - He might be able to help you. Did you see the other post about the engine?

Go to Sam's and buy a $50 remote starter. Just before brushing your teeth, hit the remote to start the car. By the time you walk out the inside is warm and the doors won't give you any trouble at all. If you remembered to push the defrost button when parking the night before you'll find the windows much easier to clean also. I think it's the best $50 I ever spent on a car.
Alternative: Put your gloves on and pound the side of your fist along the top of the window, from front to back, and the door should open.

From all the suggestions I have decided to try the following combination solution. Drink scotch, stay in bed, and don't drive the car 'till summer.
Beave, I grew up in midtown Manhattan. It goes against my grain to leave a parked car idling and unattended. It's just to easy to steal.

A little Vaseline(I can only imagine the responses to this ) around the door seals works pretty good to keep the doors from sticking.

I would not use a sheet or a blanket to cover the car as neither are waterproof and would likely just bond to the surface and tear or leave fuzzies all over the car. I would use a nylon tarp which the ice would not soak through or stick to. Throw it over the car at night and bungie the ends to the side mirrors so it doesn't blow away. A little inconvenient since you then have to fold it up in the morning and tuck it somewhere safe but a lot easier than breaking a door handle and spending 5 - 10 minutes freezing your hands off and scratching the glass on your car by scraping the ice off.

Ironically, I just had to put my advice into practice last night. We are getting rid of some furniture and it is out in the garage right now, unfortunately at the same time the temperature has dropped into the 20's.
I put a clean blanket over the top half of my SVX and it worked wonderfully just as I remembered. Walked outside this morning and pulled it off with no resistance at all. The part where the blanket was (the roof and all windows, halfway down the doors) was dry as a bone, the rest of the car was covered in ice crystals like it just came back from the future. Since Johnny has brought up potential problems with this method, which I did NOT have, I will add the disclaimer that it did not rain last night and the temperature in my area was 20-30 degree range. Your results may vary.

I always use warm, not hot, water and it never refreezes. Of course we would not suffer the really low temperatures you guys get.
Why not spray deicer on the doors?? Alcohol never did me no harm. I'm still shiny as a button, especially on top. Joe
