My Drive to work this morning.

Hi all you SVXers out in SVXland,

I walked out of the garage at 5:20 AM this morning and a blast of cold air hit my face. I approached SVXY and pushed the button on the keyfob. The interior lights came on to a chorus of berp-berp. I walked around to the passenger side to set my briefcase to ride shotgun and lo & behold I stepped on my gloves. I thought that I had left them on the front passenger seat. Boy were they cold when I put them on.

I walked back to the driver's side got in, slid the key in and turned it. SVXY fired right up as always.
I did a lot of little things as I let the car warm up for 3 minutes. I put SVXY in R and backed out of the driveway.
When I put it in 3 there was that familiar jerk as the tranny shifted. I have a case of "Duty Solenoid A" that will be fixed over the Christmas Holidays. The tranny jerks when it's cold.

I had a new CD and put it on. Rosie had bought the new Barbara Streisand 'Duets' CD last weekend. I drove listening to it. I think it is great. I drove onto I-95 N and accelerated up to 80 mph. Barbara & Donna Summers were belting out "Enough is Enough." I was surprised that Donna Summers had the power and range in her voice to equal Barbara vocally. I passed only 3 cars in Delaware. I love to drive in the early morning when noone else is on the road. I did not hit traffic (trucks) until I crossed the PA/DE line.

By that time Johnny Mathis & Barbara were signing a combination of songs from West Side Story.
Rosie & I are 2 West Side Story kids who made it out of the old neighborhood but still have plenty of it left in us.

Listening to the music and driving at speed in a great car made me realize that I have alot to be thankful for. I resolved to help somebody less fortunate than I .

May I suggest that during this seaon we all try to help out as best as we can.

Sounds like you had one of those wonderful mornings when everything seems to click for you and put you in a "Zen" state of mind. They are fewer and farther between than I'd like for me but when they happen it is almost like magic. A feeling that is hard to describe and must be felt to fully understand.

I would second your sentiments and encourage others to do the same.

Rosie made you spend the night in the garage again?

Donna Summer is a vastly underrated and underappreciated vocalist.

Amen, brother. We should never forget where we came from or where we might end up; everyone, regardless of their immediate circumstance, has the ability and power to help someone else in some way, be it big or small (and sometimes the small ways are the most appreciated).

It's posts like this that make me so glad I found this forum.

Did I mention Michael Crawford & Barbara Streisand singing 'Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera?
It was great.

PS: I did not sleep in the garage last night. I was relegated to the basement as a change of pace.

Today's Drive to Work.

The weather people predicted anywhere from 2-8 inches of snow in the Phila. area so I left early at 5:00 AM. When I left there was about 1/4" on the driveway. I did not have any problems and the interstate was clear in DE, but as usual, PA never spreads salt or plows so you can see the boundary line between the 2 states. The PA side is white and the DE side is blacktop. I kept my speed down to 55-60 mph and passed SUV's & other cars doing 40. The trackter trailers and tanker truckers do 65-70 as usual. I had no problems until I had exit I-476 on the overhead ramps. The tires (Yoko AVS dBs) started to slide as I slowed down (trailing throttle) and were absolutely useless when braking. They do stink in the snow. They came with the '92 SVX and have about 8/32" left on the treads. I guess I'll have to buy new tires soon.
The SVX is completely controllable while sliding and giving it a little gas increases traction which is unlike FWD cars. I put the tranny in duece and continued to work on the hilly streets of Conshohocken, PA without problems. The drive home tonight should be interesting.

When it snows again, I will drive the '97 SVX to work, just to see how the Dunlop SP-5000 AS tires perform.

Now I better get to work, I can't post to this site all day like other Networkers do (you know who you are).

Hi....my name is Legion...I have a problem...

"Snow days, snow days....no bus-duty-in-the-cold days..."
Sorry....

<Did I mention Michael Crawford & Barbara Streisand singing 'Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera?
It was great. >

Now THAT one makes me get bumps just THINKING about it!
When we were in England, we only knew of Michael Crawford as a comic....especially a show called "Some Mother's Do Have 'Um".
We were amazed the first time we heard him sing...."Is this the same guy?", we kept asking ourselves. Reminded me of the first time I heard Gomer Pyle (Jim Nabors) sing..... there goes the stereotypes!

Be careful on that drive home Larry....keep that sliding to a minimum! Don

<May I suggest that during this seaon we all try to help out as best as we can>
An excellent reminder my friend....and all year long too! Need is not just a seasonal problem. Be safe out in the storm everyone!

Hey Larry, I decided not to drive to work today as the garaged ebony beast was still enjoying her two-week old car wash, & furthermore why risk the ineptitude of 10,000 maniacs piloting SUVs?

But then, around 3:00 PM another thought landed. "I bought an AWD thingy that other people actually drive in CANADA!"

Screw the SUVs - Donning parka, I fired up the bad boy & assaulted the local roads. Larry, do you remember some of the Ellicott City mountainside two-laners we played with when you & Rosie dropped in? Well, I just HAD to see if I could actually stay on top of them & not slide into the Patapsco River. As I am posting this AFTER my daring trip through ice, slush & unplowed suburban roads, you'll note that MY AVS Dbs actually kept the car out of the river, & the ABS got a workout like never before.

In a word, Larry & everyone else....This car is COMPETENT!
I can't think of a better description. I would have no fear in taking it ALMOST anywhere in the snow.
So now that I know I'd have to really go out of my way to get stuck, back it goes in the Bat Cave to drip dry. It's filthy!
But, it's like complaining that you stink of sweat after finishing
a 26 mile marathon.

This is a great car!

Ron.

Ron,

I have a correction to my post. Some day I'm liable to learn fractions. It should read 8/64" tread which is an eigth of an inch not a quarter inch. So I guess I was driving on bald tires in 7" of snow. I'd say that the car is pretty competent. I also found out that on incipient skidding I should not have backed off the throttle to regain traction like I used to do in my old FWD SAAB. I should have SMOOTHLY (emphasis on smooth) applied a little more power to shift the torque rearward. Interesting this AWD. I'll have to find a good ice patch to check things out and relearn proper procedures.

PS: Your black SVX is probably now slush gray colored like my Pearly.
