That tells me we may be looking at a Kinko's reproduction. Only reason there is binder holes, methinks. (or I could be totally wrong, who knows.)

Re: excellent svx literature on ebay.

I ordered this years ago. Not very good with some technical mistakes.

Not worth keeping so I threw it out the same day.

Re: excellent svx literature on ebay.

Not quite on topic, and a little long, but maybe...
I am lucky enough to live in a quiet neighborhood, and park the SVX in front of my house. (I have a two-car garage, but my daughter's Miata resto project and my Alfa are in it.) So the SVX and the Capri live on the street. I tend not to lock the SVX, because a) I dont want some street life breaking a window to get in, and b) there's nothing in it except the Owner's Manual and a bunch of gas receipts in the glove box. I drove the SVX on Friday (the 13th) and parked it in the usual spot. I didn't need it again until Monday afternoon, when I was to go to the Petersen Museum for a meeting. Tossed my stuff in on the driver's seat, unlocked the trunk, took out my duster, and wiped a weekend's worth of scuzz off the outside. Put the duster back into the trunk and opened the door to get in. Hey, the center console was open. The latch button is missing, so it takes a little juggling with a screwdriver or a key to get into it. There's nothing in it, for that reason. I closed it. Then I noticed that the glove box was also open, and there was nothing in it, either. No gas receipts, and worse, no Owner's Manual. Why would anyone lift the OM for an SVX. There are supposedly two SVXi within a five-mile radius of my house. One, a teal, I sort of know, have had a couple of phone and e-mail exchanges with the owner. The other, a pearlie like mine, is mostly a rumor.
So now, do I confront the owner of the teal, and ask for my manual back, or do I go on Ebay and look for it, or another? Frustrating.
Now I want to lock the car, so I put new batteries into the remote, but it doesn't seem to work. And I no longer have the manual to tell me how to set it up.
Bah Humbug!

Re: excellent svx literature on ebay.

John's right, there are some technical errors and it's not the most exciting piece of vintage literature out there.

But I do know some history...

Sometime around the mid-90's I got a package of these car info cards in the mail, unsolicited "junk mail". Maybe because I had had a R&T subscription in the past, maybe just random? It was a sales package with 4 or 5 of these cards for different exotic cars (SVX wasn't one of the ones I got). And trying to get me to buy into their program. The holes are because these would all go into a special binder they would send you if you signed up. You "subscribed" and for $10/month or whatever you got 5 or 10 or however many of these cards in the mail each month. Just like in the picture, just a single piece that folded in half to go into the binder. So after a couple years, you'd have this big notebook binder full of all these exotic and interesting cars - for a few hundred bucks! Needless to say I never signed up for it.

I have no doubt the ones on ebay are genuine (unless they aren't on two sided heavy stock that the originals were). But with the errors and the fact that they were neither produced by Subaru nor a recognized publication, I don't think they have much collector value.

Yes, they are originals. I purchased one a long time ago. It is a heavy paper that is glossy. And yes, they are on there all of the time.

Sorry to hear that Paul.

I always lock my cars, everywhere. I am paranoid, plus I have a negative view of human nature. In my mind leaving it open is an invitation to joy riders to get in and hot-wire it. Plus, you may be aware that Subaru keys of our vintage are notorious for being interchangeable. At a meeting in England the guys discovered that their keys would operate 4 out of 5 SVXes there!

This is stable door after the horse bolted advice [] but you could probably lock the doors and leave the radio cage and glove box open, so that they can be seen by prospective thieves to be empty.

I hope you get sorted.

Joe

Re: excellent svx literature on ebay.

Hi Joe,
Strange (and happy) development. My mechanic, who's shop is about a mile from my house, just called. He has all the paperwork from my glove box, including the manual. The street sweeper operator found a pile of paperwork at the curb halfway between my house and the shop, and because it had a bill from the shop with it, he turned it in there. I guess it was just street life who saw an opportunity, and then found that there was nothing valuable (except to me) in the stuff they got. I'm leaving now to pick it up. So all's well that ends well, except I will lock the car all the time now.
P.

Thumbs up Re: excellent svx literature on ebay.

Great news Paul.

That is indeed a happy ending. I'm very pleased for you, that was a stroke of good luck.

And yeah, I think locking it in future is a good plan.

Joe
