Question anybody know Blackbart?

Does any body know blackbart? he says he's got 6 2.2Ltr turbo pistons
con rods and things like that. would it be a bad idea to use "used pistons"
in the EG33? at 175 for 6 it's kind of tempting.

I've never met him, but I know the Gen 1 Legacy folks rely on him for parts. I've never heard of any bad transactions.

I thought the 2.2 pistons were the same size. or is that for the 22b? i did a search
http://www.importperformanceparts.ne...ns-subaru.html
says the EJ22t turbo pistons are 96.9 like the SVX's but if you guys have fist hand experience, then i'll take your word for it. i know you guys that have been turboing the EG are very sharp and know first hand a bunch of stuff. has anybody tried to put these in?

Theres more to pistons that width... The SVX pistons make a 10:1 compression on a non interference motor while the 2.2 makes 9.5:1 on an interference motor. The SVX pistons have more height and valve reliefs than the 2.2 pistons

uh tom, pre 97 the ej22 was non-interference, the ej22t was no exception, i'm not trying to belittle you. your probably right about them being different, just adding to the knowledge pot. no subaru motor with a timing belt was interference from the factory till 97.

so if it's a pre-97 the pistons will work? i sure didn't know about the valve reliefs! thanks for all the info guys. i havn't touched the eg motor ever. and i havn't been thinking about this project for about 5 years.

we had done the math years ago and found the compression ratio of the 2.2l pistons were significantly lower than acceptable levels. For ex. a turbo piston would drop it to 7.5:1 and an N/A piston was 8.0:1

Excellent, so i 'm not the only one that's wanted to put the 2.2 pistons in. but doesn't the 8.0:1 ratio mean we can put huge ammounts of boost? like 30 psi?. i better start saving then. BTW does anybody know the VE of our motors? (volumetric efficiency)

Holy crap! that's awesome, do you know what it drops to when we put the 8.5:1 pistons in it?

not sure. The motors I have built were both supercharged.
