Unhappy R.I.P. Grandpa Mckibbon

Last night at 3:15am my grand father passed away, he was a great man and an awesome grandpa. He had a stroke alittle over a year ago and had been slowly declining in health. The last couple weeks were alot worse, with him being in the emergency room 4 times in six weeks. The mood around the house today is more of relief, its sad to know hes gone but im happy hes resting now. He had a good long life (fought in WWII) and its good to know he'll still live on in all the great memories I have of him.

Re: R.I.P. Grandpa Mckibbon

Both of mine are still kickin, although my grandpa on my dad's side has dementia/alzheimer's and I doubt he would even know who I was. He lived with us my whole life, when we moved to Oregon we got him and my grandma an apartment in town, where they lived until 96 when she passed away, and then he moved back in with us. He got to the point where he couldn't remember what he did 5 minutes ago and we couldn't provide him the level of care that he needed, so he moved back to Pennsylvania and lives in a nursing home outside of Reading where my aunt works, he's still mobile and everything else works fine, just his memory is shot, and he'll be 92 in June!

I dunno what'd be worse though, having your grandfather be dead, or having him still be alive but not remember who you are or anything.

Sorry for your loss, but he's in a better place now. Still sucks, but you'll get to see him again someday.

Re: R.I.P. Grandpa Mckibbon

Sorry about your loss. I lost my grandmother (Nana) 2 years ago and my grandfather (Papa)back in 2003. She was a Austrian nurse who tended to both sides of WWII and he was part of the Croatian miltia who fought everyone who came into their valley. She remembers when Hitler came thru Vienna and everyone was cheering him(only because they all had machine guns to their backs) My "Papa" was shot 7 times and took a grenade then killed the SOB that shot him Both were tough as nails and miss them both. They are the greatest generation in my opinion.

Dustin, thinking about you man. You have a great attitude, celebrating the wonderful life your grandfather lived.

Sounds like he would have been a great guy to know.

Take care.

Sorry to hear Dustin. It is a relief that he is no longer suffering, and that he can still be remembered with all the great things he did.

Re: R.I.P. Grandpa Mckibbon

Thanks you guys for the kind words!

The funeral was today, my grandpa got a plot in the section for memebers of the American Legion.

While sitting around with some older family members, I found out that I am a descendant of Bonnie Parker (Bonnie & Clyde fame).

I guess you learn something new everyday!
