Differential gearing?

Hey, I was curious if theres an easy way to tell what gearing a differential has? A guy near me has a differential from a 1998 Legacy outback for sale, but is not sure about the gearing. Any help or advise would be great. Thanks

If it's a 98 Legacy outback automatic 2.5, then it's a 4.44.
