Exclamation 350Z Supercharged by................NISSAN

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/mo..._350z_gts.html

Ok, how do we do that????????? "... and can be switched on and off using a button on the centre console."

I was thinking about this technology for long time... which compact supercharger does that???

How about.......

an electric clutch like those used on the A/C compressor and a switch-able map in the engine management ECU ??

Heard about this in the UK motoring press and coverage on the Goodwood FoS but hadn't really paid much attention........ From the pics it looks like a centrifical type blower, the Vortec product is similar I think.

Just a thought Danny.

Now this is a system worth integrating in our cars... I think it replaces the NOS, you can enjoy the N/A feature of your car at one time and "Power on Demand" when needed

I am waiting to hear some experts thoughts on this... svxfiles, Harv, Trev, LAN...

After you've been in a Stage III car you wont be conserned about turning off the supercharger. When your cruising the by-pass opens anyway. The S/C doesnt seem to hurt the gas mileage that much. I've dropped about 3 to 4 MPG, but I also switched over to the JDM 6-speed tranny also. I believe most if not all of the MPG I lost is do to the different gearing.

Hi Danny.
This brings up images of the supercharged cop car in Mad Max!

With a centrifigal blower, and the speeds they turn, I'm not sure how long a blower would last if you banged it into "gear" at say 5000 rpm.
In my case with my last blower I used a 6" crank pulley, and a 2.25 blower pulley, and the internal drive was 3.33 to one...(as I remember)

So at 5000 rpm my 6.2" impeller was spinning at 44,439.998 rpm.
The new one I have coming has a 4.1 to one internal drive, and a
6.9" impeller!

I have been getting 18 mpg city and 21 highway, and have been very happy with that.

A roots type blower has alot more internal mass to start spinning, not to mention the resistance of compressing the air.

With mine, at 3000 rpm cruising, (72 mph w/4.44s) If I have light throttle its only 2.7 or so psi.
So untill you drop the hammer it drives like a normal car.

So that Nissan is like a Stage III SVX but with a greater loss in mileage and no AWD.

its also equal to, or slightly slower than a stock STi, despite having a 77hp advantage and (theoretically) costs quite a bit more.

We'll have to wait and see how much of an improvement it makes if/when reviewed on TopGear.
