Hopefully a usefull thread on ecsaine
Okay...where to start....I suppose the begening will suffice. I aquired a set of tan ecsaine seats a while back, swapped every interior peice in my car from grey to tan, and installed the seats. The seats werent in pristine condition...they had easilly 150k worht of wear and tear on them, and a particularly neglegent previous owner. Aside from massive bolstier wear, I managed to spill a half gallon of iced tea on the passenger seat, and left a few hot glue sticks on the seat in the sun (Guess what happened?!)
So the not-so-good condition seats are even more....not-so....good, and I find myself searching for prices to replace, recover, or reupholster the seats. In my search, I came up with this...And it might just help out anybody who wants to do the same Ultrasuede info and stuff Ultrasuede swatches OEM ecsane contact / info More swatches ect. There seems to be plenty of color variety...Might be helpfull to anyone who wants to..say, have their ecsaine match their exterior paint (Or any other custom interior options for that matter)..Or hopefully I can track down some color swatches that match the factory colors (And where applicable, perforations) for re-upholstery projects.

Thanks for the links Eric. I had not realised that Alcantara and Ecsaine were the same product. Interesting, and nice to see we can get replacement if we need it. I have often thought that the seat squabs in the leather upholstered cars should be Ecsaine, not leather. The leather is too slippery. I remember when one of our members in Australia was hit in the back in her SVX, big hit. She was injured because the slippery seat allowed her to "submarine" under the seat belt and into the footwell. That's why it is used in Grand Prix. It is light and it is non-slip. It might be a good idea to have an upholsterer sew in Ecsaine panels in the seat squabs, instead of the leather panels that go across. It would look good and grip well, and be cooler to sit on in hot summer weather. Joe

K that makes sense. I'm sitting here wondering how it's more safe then not having anything at all.

They do say in the Ecsaine site "our product" singular is marketed under different names in different regions. http://www.ecsaine.com/english/about/global/index.html The first time I came across it in an automotive sense was when Lamborghini used it as Alcantara for the Countach instead of cow hide, supposedly in the interests of lightness. The fact it is still around and being used more does show how good a fabric it really is. Joe

Yeah. Hoipefully I can find a few more links to places thatll sell the stuff by the yard...thats whats most helpfull (At least for me)
The real question for me is which is cheaper...the fabric by the yard, plus paying to have it sewn the same as the stock seats....or to just buy the stock seat covers (presuming they exist somehwere)
