I've dealt with the treo 650 cmda mostly. The PDA side is nice, so that should be the same for the gsm model. In general, reception won't be as strong on PDA phones, so you will have weaker reception in different areas. Whether that's enough to hold a call depends on where you are.

I have used the Treo 600 for several years. When this one is replaced, I will look very closely at the 650.

I was looking at 9500. I now use Eten-M500 / Torq-P100. Looking for the new Acer. Hate the HTC Universal (I think). I also have a HTC Typhoon to get rid of on Ebay soon.

yeah i was never a big fan of pda phones. i've had quite a few pda's before and the only thing i use them for is detecting wifi hotspots, surfing for Andy approved images, listening to music, on rare occasions i watch movies, and playing dopewars.

other than that, it's been pretty useless for me. however, that 9500 would be better utilized for my needs.

i've messed with them in hong kong. pretty decent IMO.

my main problem with buying a treo (other than price) is the palm os. fortunately the new treo runs windows so that might be a solution.

The 9500 is a stupid phone, it has no VIBRATOR, his screen is a 65K TFT only, his camera is useless, and it has a HUGE size.

On the other hand, if you only want internet access on it, it is an excellent phone... but there are far better phones for web access than this one.
There are I-mates, Blackberry's, Palms, HP's... and there is a new NOKIA to be released, it is the E61, excellent phone for browsing, but no CAMERA !!

What i recommend in this issue (I work in a Mobile TELECOM company here), is the TO BE RELEASED Nokia N91, it has all the options and it is a smart phone (symbian) and good looking or the non-symbian also to be released Sony Ericsson W900.

This is a Palm to be released that i recommend, it is good for browsing but it has no camera

As for the Nokia that I recommend (and i will get for myself):

And the non symbian COOL Sony Ericsson:

OK, here is a challenge. I am looking for a new phone with the following features. GSM, PDA, GPS, Bluetooth, car mount, cycle mount.

Is there such a beast available, or on the way?

(I currently have a p800 Sony Ericsson which would be perfect if if has GPS and mounts)

Guess I'm gonna be single for a while. I stick with huge PDA phones, huge PDAs, am mostly broke, and haven't worked out for ages because of work and school. Not to mention that engineers aren't sought after like lawyers and doctors.

That last one really ticks me off. I had a couple of my girl's friends tell her she should be seeing a doctor or a lawyer, not an engineer. One of these comments came from a girl who was dating a not-so-great looking guy who was 10 years older simply because he was a med student.

Back on topic... The Treo 700w looks nice. Personally, I prefer the Windows OS, but the Palm OS is more efficient and has more software support. I really liked having a Verizon phone back when you could surf the net by the minute. Cingular's data plans are on a per MB basis. I racked up $10 of charges in 2 minutes of surfing.

:P

call it what you will. i think the e61's ok, but i still think the 9500 is the best phone option for me. i've used different pda phones, blackberries, and palms. i think they all suck. there's no doubt that the 9500 is large in size, but i'm not into the whole, 'it looks cool' effect. i'm looking for function. different strokes for different folks.
