There's an intersection not far from where I live where a small, country road crosses a four-lane freeway. For some reason, people can't seem to cross it safely. There's been a handful of fatalities there over the years and recently they've blocked it off. For some people, this adds fifteen minutes to their commute.

What troubles me is that there's no reason for anyone to get in an accident at this intersection. Traffic is never heavy, visibility is excellent, and the intersection is clearly marked. The problem is obviously a matter of stupid drivers.

My solution would be to post a sign that says "Stupid people use alternate route," and raise the speed limit to 90 to further deter them.

Racing or not, some people are just plain stupid.

That's what I was ranting on about with the Dakar rally segment. Relevant data is shrewdly omitted and completely irrelevant data is crafted so as to imply a scenario that really has no semblance of truth whatsoever. The lady who made the left turn may have been drunk, but if that doesn't suit the purposes of those who write the report, we'll never know about it. This applies to the police and media.

(I had an officer give me a bogus ticket once, carefully wording his report to paint me in a bad way. I brought the judge a picture which clearly illustrated the facts. She dismissed the case and scolded the officer. Backfire! Hooray!)

I might also suggest that, yes, she should have know how fast those cars were going. They could have been motorcycles or semi-trucks. Accurately judging the speed of either of those particular vehicles can be difficult, even when they're traveling within the limit. The faster those vehicles were going, the more obvious it should have been that they were going fast.

...and I will also go so far as to defend the position that if you dress provocatively, expect to be treated differently. Hang with the wrong crowd, expect bad things. If you wear the red bandana in a blue bandana neighborhood, expect to be shot at. Gasoline doesn't burn without a spark. When something bad happens, it's often the fault of both parties. If you drive like an idiot, expect to get in an accident. This isn't rocket science. Stupidity is painful. Some people just get away with it a little longer before the lesson is handed out.

I really found something out today,I street race a lot, but by what I'm reading sure the fools who race on open streets with traffic should rot in jail, but there are a lot of us in NC who race on some of the empty backroads for anywhere from 500-5000 dollars. And no one gets hurt not even when the trailer cars come on the backroads.I will continue to improve the performance of my svx because like or not why are you guys that run the forum are so fast so allow how the car can handle a supercharger or a 150 shot of nos to be posted knowing what the extra power is for,I'm not mad just someone who had a fast svx long before joining a forum.

It is legal to have any of the equipment that you mention and you can increase the performance all you want without breaking any laws. The reason Street Racing is not allowed here is that it is against the law, or NOT LEGAL! Enough said.

Competition versus Speed

I admit that I drive fast and frequently exceed the speed limit on open roads, but I NEVER race. (we have some very long stretches of open road) The problem with most street racing is that competitive adrenalin kicks in and that impairs judgement. Most people hate to get beat and will do nearly anything to keep from losing. That is what makes street racing dangerous, probably even more than the speed.
