too bling-bling for me - i got enough crap on my keychain.

check ebay - they are there from time to time.

if you don't like the garish orange remote, i remember someone (or a few people) on here managed to overlay or replace the top cover with their own design cover. you could make your own on some adhesive-backed plastic (i'm pretty sure they have that stuff you can run through your computers printer ?).

i'd be happy to make up a design in Photoshop if you tell me what you want. maybe i'll do mine, too.

I'm telling you, y'all need to stay away from those dealerships. (At the very least, give 'em the a price you got from an online source and see if they'll match it.)

I'll double-check but I think at one point Walker's Subaru in Renton, WA listed them for $45. I had just asked the parts guy for the price, so I didn't see it with my own eyes, but I'll doublecheck and if so I'll post it here in case anyone's interested (with phone number and all that).

I still can't bring myself to pay that much for an SVX transmitter... Have you ever opened it to replace the battery? It's the most simple electronic device I've ever seen. The electronic board inside takes up about 1/4th (if that) of the whole surface area...

To distill my latest anti-dealership rant: Price shop to protect yourself from some dealers' unreasonable mark-ups.

Yeah, it's wild that you can buy a DVD player for what that dinky remote costs. But remember, we're talking about a single-application electronic device that dates back better than thirteen years. Technologically-speaking, that's ages. The dealership asking $150 has probably sold 'em for that repeatedly.

i can vouch for subaruparts.com, as i just ordered a remote frrom them last month for $50 (dealer wanted $78) and it came with no problems. The price is pretty steep, but if you really want one, thats probably your best bet.

I was wrong. Walker's has them listed for 77.94... Not even in stock.

Chaplin's Subaru in Bellevue, WA (my car's there right now) does have them in stock, for 59.99.

How much is shipping cost through subaruparts.com? Trying to figure out if the extra $10 + Tax is near the total cost of ordering it online.

I just paid $7.95 in shipping for two bulb sockets from subaruparts.com, via DHL. Can't imagine shipping the remote would cost more. (Yeah that's high, considering they could have been mailed First Class for more like a buck-fifty, but it sure beats the nearly three hour round trip to and from the Subaru dealership nearest to me.)

subaruparts.com/remote

http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=3#2

Edit: When I checked that link I noticed the copy reads," This item is on backorder with Subaru. We do not know when it will be released by Subaru." But I clicked "add to cart" and there was a green checkmark beside the description, which I would to take to mean the thing's in stock. Who knows...?

If you're complaining about the Remote..

Wait till you have to replace the windshield....

Or the seatbelt motor....

They always start that low, but always go up... I've watched several and used ones always go for above $30, and new ones reach the $50 mark.

I think I'm just going to make the plunge and buy it from Chaplin's. 59.99 + tax should be around $66... But they have 'em in stock.

sigh... I guess mine's entitled to be retired, being 13 years old.

I'll take good care of the $60+ one.

You're right; I unloaded about thirty bucks for one on eBay (to have a spare), and once in hand, I wished I'd just bought new. Pretty lousy shape. I tossed it into a box on a closet shelf and haven't even tried programming the thing.
