I need an SVX back....

i just got a 1998 subaru legacy SUS. i know some of you will say SUS weren't made until 99, but actually it was started out in New England and 400 were made. So i'm interested in getting a SVX again i don't have too much money and i'm thinking on just having it be my progect car. i'm thinking on a 92 SVX but i'm really not sure on it. i know the SVX for 96-97 are the best ones, because of the transmission. i'm just looking to buy an SVX before 2007 comes and they start to become classic cars. i hear that after 10 years of the car being discontinued they become a collectors item, and go up in price. i'm saying this with the SVX because only 14000 were brought to the US. so what i'm asking is are the 92's good i really wish to go for a 96-97 but i don't have anywhere near that amount of money right now. i'm starting college soon and i'm already going to drain my bank account with books and dorming. can someone tell me the best year of the SVX to buy besides the 96-97. thanks

My opinion...

Well I like the 92's. No electronic govenor... <mwuhahahahaha!!!> Must, go, fast... It's also the one I have. Yeah, the tranny might go bad. On mine, the tranny was replaced 10,000 miles before I got it. And if you're nice to it, it'll last a while. Then when it goes out, you can get a 5-speed. Just my two cents...

Tranny is good

I've found, as have other members I'm sure, that the SVX tranny, even in a 92, is fine IF preventative maintenance is practiced. Adding an aftermarket cooler and filter will work wonders for the life of the SVX transmission. Overall, it is very strong, just has a problem with heat. Add the cooler, and many of those problems are basically fixed.

........ i'm not saying you are wrong, but i really want to see if your premise turns out to be true with this particular nameplate and model.
