The reason why I pointed out the how-tos is because I end up printing them every time I end up doing something. I also end up bringing my laptop out to the car if I don't have my printer setup. It's easier to look at paper compare to a screen. And it's coming from a GEEK!

I print them too, same reason. I keep them in a paper folder. With greasy thumb-prints on it.

i've seen the newsletter idea on other forums, and as others have said, it starts out with a lot of enthusiasm, and then is quickly forgotten about. we have the How-To locker, Site News on the main page, and Regional forums for Meets/announcements - what exactly would go in the newsletter anyway?
Alan,
I think the thrust of the dues was to support a newsletter, not limit participation / review of the forums as we know them today. My suggestion was to have a newsletter, but place it (them) in a particular "forum" of the network ((like the "Meets" forum), requireing an individual to be a dues-paying member to view them - this assumes no hardcopy mailed out to individual "dues-paying" members.

Seems there are a several questions here to address:
1) does the SVX Network want a "newsletter"?
2) If so, should it be on-line (electronic) on the current SVX Network or sent out in hardcopy to the dues-paying members?
3) If electronic on the network, then how would only dues-paying members be allowed to view the newsletters? If sent hardcopy, then it would be quite simple to send the newletters to ONLY those paying dues.
4) Who would actually compile and distribute the newsletters?

Bottom line (as I see it), one would NOT have to be a "dues-paying" member to still enjoy the SVX Network forums as we know and love today - I would fight for this to be the case. And a question to add to those above: "Will the difference of only a newsletter warrant the paying of dues - whatever they might be? Depending on the "quality" of the newsletters, I would say, yes.

Harry

Thumbs up

As to quality - Non-dues paying members will receive a B & W edition featuring a centerfold (e.g.) of Lwin once again splicing dash wires to add his latest edition of a GPS/hi-def TV combo. High rollers will get the Kodachrome edition with a centerfold featuring Catherine Zita Jones look-alikes, sudsing-up SVXen ala THE SCENE in "Cool Hand Luke".
You gets what you pay for.

I'll write when I need money, Harry.

Ladies ARE time (and money) consuming.

See you with my less than fat wallet at Sheetz on April 23!

As to the value of a printed newletter (or PDF newsletter you can print off or save to your computer), you just can't beat it.
This site is great as a forum, but it sucks as a newsletter. Where are the articles? Tons of good stuff tucked in all these threads, but how do you find all of it? (Don't say "USE THE SEARCH, N00B!"). Think of it this way, which would you rather do, pick up an issue of Car & Driver and sit back in a comfortable chair and leaf through it, or go online and search for articles to read on a computer monitor, while fiddling with the scrolling and back buttons?

Reminds me of an ole saying my Gran'ma use ta say to my gran'pa.

She'd say "Oscar.............................

due me baby, due me.

I think the premium/basic dues that rich fellar Ron came up with is a good idea. I think the premium dues should include access to "moderator deleted posts".

Obviously, I've missed some good ones here lately.

Ok, I agree. It would be nice if each month someone wrote up a How-To that was not in the Documents, maybe an evaluation of some product, a hint or two on detailing etc. The only problem that I can see is that who is going to compile all of the stuff and make it a news letter. If someone wants to do it, great. It is a thankless job and would require a lot of time and effort.

Yes, I agree with that 100%. I know from experience how true that is. We'd all love it, most of us would pay for it, but who's gonna DO IT?
