Stealth

Well, I got the Stealth that was given to me to my parents. I thinking it's going to need a new motor. It has the bottom of the line engine. 3.0L SOHC w/ 165 HP. At least it has a 5-speed. He said he broke the timing belt and it had a coolent leak. Talk about under statement. I took the timing cover off the front side. The belt is shreaded. There isnt any rubber left, just the fiber strands that hold the rubber together. When I put water in the radiator fill it runs back out the lower front of the engine as fast as it goes in. I hoping that either the belt distroyed the water pump or vice-versa, and the rest of the engine is OK. But the only way to know is to pull the engine and yank the heads off. I guess I'll start tomarrow.

Eaven if I have to put another engine in it was a steal. So for I'm out $100. That I spent hauling it to the parents house.

Welcome to the NFS club of SVX owners trying to make a base Stealth run.

I haven't even seen mine since mid to late winter so you have a good head start.

Disconnected the wiring Sunday. It was the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I starts at the firewall, passenger side. Runs over to the front set of injectors, wraps around the front of the engine to the distributor and altenator. fron there it goes UNDER the intake to the injectors on theback side of the engine, than back to the passenger-side fFront corner and the fuse box. Thats right it wraps 360 degrees around the engine. WTF!

Well at least its done. Next the Fuel lines, mounts, and axles. I should be able to get it out next weekend.

Dude, just ditch the engine... Put one from a 3000gt SL in there... Ya know, the DOHC 3.0 V6... That is a really nice engine

I agree, the engine is probably salvagable but will cost in the thousands to fix. These are interference engines right?

A motor swap will be quicker, easier and cheaper.

They're right.
Unless you want a slow piece of crap, swap the engine. The base engine has no potential, and I think only one guy has managed to get it over 200hp, but he never came up with proof.

Yes, it's interference, and SOHC. xP

I agree. You probably could get a used 222hp 3.0L engine from a 3000GT SL from a '91-'96 MY for very little from a junk yard.

That Stealth will make a great project car...

Good luck!

I would guess that the water pump (or something worse) siezed.

The engine might be fine, but then it might not be. Our old Escort had an interference engine, and we had two timing belts break while driving with no ill effects.

Ok, this is why I'm not considering the DOHC swop.

1. It costs more and you also need to swop the ECU and probubly the wiring harness.

2. This isnt a keeper car. I may drive it for a year or so then sell it for a grand or two.

If it was a keeper I'd consider an engine upgrade (VR4 engine is $2K). I may go as far as using it for a track beater to get some exsperience. If I start building a racer i'll be an SVX. The car was free is the only reason I took it. If I had to pay I wouldnt have gotten it. I was working on rescueing Petesvx's '92 from the guy who hit it when I was given this one. I may not be able to resue it now. Not that it matters, I havent heard from the guy yet.

If you're not keeping the car...

Then make money on it by parting it out!

Take pieces off the car in your spare time and put them up on Ebay. The wheels, rear spoiler, trunk lid, tail lights, etc are all in good shape. If the interior is also decent, you could sell the seats, center console, dashboard, radio, etc.

You could easily make well over 1K by selling it in 'pieces' on Ebay...

I could sell mine for 3k in the boonie towns around here.

But I prefer to keep it and have a nice looking beater, while the X sits under a cover on weekdays. =D

Took the engine down this past weekend. The heads dont look damaged. Looks like all I need to get are some gaskets to replace the ones I broke, a new water pump, and new belts. Woo Hoo...... I'm gettin off cheap for another daily driver.
