Brake Shim question
I just checked my rear brakes as the inner pad was not making proper contact with the rotor. Cleaned and lubed the slides.
Lots of pad material left but I noticed that the back surface of the inner pad is very corroded. It is so rough I'm sure it can't move when the piston pushes against it. There is no Shim and I'm wondering if there should be. If you use a shim do you guys lube between the shim & pad and between the piston & shim? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Brake Shim question
Subaru shims on the rears fit pretty snug against the brake so I wouldn't lube it.

Re: Brake Shim question
I usually do both on my brakes, as long as you dont over-do it with the stuff it cant hurt, and it also provides some corrosion protection wherever you apply it. My brakes were piss poor when I bought the car, but after I cleaned the crap out of them and lubed everything up, it brakes like a new car.
